Local anaesthetic and pregnancy?

Can anyone advise? I'm 6 weeks pg and was due to have a knee op under general anaesthetic on wed, which obviously can't go ahead now. However, when I spoke to the hospital they said that I should still have it as if I have extra weight it could cause more probs with my knee. I do need to have it fixed but am a bit worried about having it under local anaesthetic. Does anybody know if there is any risk to the baby at this stage (or any stage). I'm also worried about the whole issue of my body being under lots of stress and shock and it affecting the baby. Nurse said she would speak to surgeon and anaesthetist and get back to me with what they advise but warned me that it 'is not pleasant having it done under local'.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

cartilage in knee is torn so that is what op is for- causing me loads of problems with pain and locking!

Oh poor you. I am sure you will be much more uncomfortable later in pregnancy if you leave the op, I would suggest you get your information from your consultant. I have heard of ops under general anaesthetic while pregnant, but obviously medical professionals will know more.

Hiya

When I was pregnant with ds, I had to have an op to remove an ovarian cysts, my doctor reccomended waiting till I was past 14 weeks to have the op so the chance of miscarriage went down.

This was 4 yrs ago though so who knows it mght have changed, speak to you docs about it before you decide though
