Maternity entitlement

I am wondering if anyone can help in explaining SMP. Is the entitlement for the first 6 weeks based on your average contractual pay or between certain weeks of your pregnany? Also can this be lowered if you were off sick due to pregnancy and on SSP? Any help or advice is most appreciated.

It's taken as the average over a certain period before you leave,
Sickness can impact yes, and if you're sick within a certain point of planned ml leave date you can have ml start as a mandatory requirement

Thanks I then just need to find out which dates exactly that it is calculated from. I was off on SSP during most of my pregnancy due to a still undiagnosed condition which certain tests cannot be done until after birth.

Take a look at this page - you need to figure out what your Qualifying Week is, and the "Relevant Period" which determines your pay is the period of 8 weeks up to and including the last pay day before the end of the qualifying week.
