Did the flu jab make you ill?

I was jabbed at lunchtime yesterday. By dinner time my nose was streaming uncontrollably. I've felt a bit off since - but my (presumed dormant) morning sickness has returned with a vengeance today. Vomited 4 times already. It doesn't feel like poisoning (although I guess it might be) - so I'm wondering if I'm now suffering a mini-flu.

Did anyone else react to the flu jab?

I was wondering about this too so I'll watch with interest :)

At my booking in appointment the midwife advised having it ASAP. I've never had a flu jab before and I've heard it can make people poorly. Not sure whether it's really necessary to have it?

HoggleHoggle · 01/01/2015 13:58

I had one and had no effects at all.

IceLemonGin · 01/01/2015 13:58

From what I've been told it shouldn't make you ill as it's not a live vaccine. Interested in hearing other people's experiences though as I'm 9+2 and was going to bring it up with my midwife next week.

I would have it again - because flu in pregnancy can be v. Serious - but very Envy today.

It's not a live vaccine so can only cause a fever at worse but not cold/flu symptoms. I think it is likely you've caught a cold (half the people I know seem to have one at the moment). When I had mine I just had a very sore and heavy feeling arm for a couple of hours - no other side effects.

HollyBen · 01/01/2015 14:08

I had it with both pregnancies (2010 & 2014) and had no ill effects either time.

It is not essential to have Gillian. I know lot of woman who have it and as many who choose not to. With my first pg I was not going to have it. Then DH (who is almost never ill) had flu. He was really ill with it. Even though I didn't get it at the time he asked me to consider having the vaccine as he didn't want to go through what he had whilst pregnant.

GingerbreadPudding · 01/01/2015 14:25

I had it, sore arm for a few days but not ill. From what I've read, there is no way it could make you Ill and anyone who does fall I'll is just coincidence.

GraysAnalogy · 01/01/2015 14:28

You can have side effects but it won't give you the flu. Some side effects can be quite uncomfortable but not as bad as flu. Hope you feel better soon.

beth1987 · 01/01/2015 18:42

Hello,
I had none with flu or whooping cough, thankfully. Slight sore arm I suppose

weelamb123 · 01/01/2015 19:13

Ive still to have mine, but have my reservations too. Ive got a raging cold the now so they wont give it to me until that clears anyway. Xx

WiIdfire · 01/01/2015 19:14

No, I was fine.

NickyEds · 01/01/2015 20:16

My arm was a bit achy when I lay on it but that was it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/01/2015 00:57

I had it and had zero side effects. Didn't get ill, didn't have a sore arm.

5ChildrenAndIt · 02/01/2015 01:57

My cold symptoms are very modest - but OMG I've totally lost a grip on the vomiting - having thought I was coming out of morning sickness. Been sick 6 times yesterday - down to green bile - so not feeling very well now!

I had mine just before Christmas and asked this question! I was told what others have said, it's not a live vaccine therefore you won't get flu symptoms but you can still get flu as it takes three weeks for your body to make the antibodies.

ReindeerDontFly · 02/01/2015 07:51

I had one and was told the same, not a live virus. But was also told that it doesn't kick in for two weeks, so you can still catch the flu in that time.

Jackiebrambles · 02/01/2015 07:56

I had it a few weeks ago, no symptoms at all - just a slightly sore arm.

ClearlyOpaque · 02/01/2015 09:30

I had mine a few week ago and was told the same... It's not live so won't give you flu, but you might get some side effects. I felt rough that evening and nearly fainted/threw up on the train home and then sparked out when I made it home. Felt back to normal the next morning though.

Number3cometome · 02/01/2015 10:05

No effects at all here.
