Oh my goodness, have just found out I'm pregnant. My ds is 9 months old and I'm still breastfeeding. He's taking to food quite slowly - he was hospitalised and has had a lot of healing to do - so he's still quite reliant on me.

My question for anyone who can help is, Can I take folic acid whilst breastfeeding?

Thank you in advance -

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

yes

Yes, of course you can take folic acid while breastfeeding. It's only a B vitamin! How pregnant are you? It's probably too late anyway, but I'm sure you will be fine. Congratulations. And you can keep breastfeeding too.

Yes, you can. My midwives recommended that I did just that.

Wow, that was so quick thanks guys.
Sorrel, I reckon on about 3 weeks - how long is too late?
Our son had a congenital heart defect (open heart surgery 8 days old and 2 further ops... only the beginning) and I confess to being nervous about birth defects. Though I won't be letting it over shadow the next 9 months.

Oh, Ok, the neural tube closes about 28 to 32 days after conception. YOu can take twice the recommended dose perfectly safely (it is recommended to women who have a previous child with a neural tube defect).
The overwhelming likelihood is that everything is fine. Sorry about your little boy and all his ops
Hope it all goes really well.

That's lovely, thanks Sorrell - chemist first thing then
