bleeding after sex at 17 weeks

Started a couple of hours ago. Was bright red and definitely more than spotting. I rang maternity triage but they said they would not see me as im less than 20 weeks but I could go to A&E.

Have checked after an hour and a half and have filled a pantyliner but now looks more brown than red. When I wipe it is red brown.

Any advice? Don't really want to go to A&E today of all days - and if ot is worse case scenario there is nothing they can do anyway. Just want to know baby is ok

It may well be bleeding from your cervix as it gets more sensitive during pregnancy. It sounds like it's petering out now and, like you say, there's nothing anyone can do to stop it if it is a miscarriage but it really doesn't sound like it is. You're not suffering from cramping etc and the blood is turning brown. I'm sorry as it is stressful, try to relax.

I would go and get checked out. A&e can do a doppler and check for heartbeat if only to put your mind at rest. I had the same at 17 weeks, now 33 weeks so try not to worry. They'd rather see you than have you worry at home. And if you go now, they'll maybe observd you for an hour, go in later they might admit you. Good luck :)

I had this, although last week, and I was 15/16 weeks - we had a bit of a marathon morning in bed and then the following morning I had quite a heavy bleed. Turns out it was just my cervix being irritated by all the poking, I went to A&E too and they were lovely - I got seen really quickly and they were very reassuring. I was told to keep and eye on it, and I had a bit more brown spotting and then it stopped altogether. Had a scan last Friday and baby was still there and no sign of bleeding... The Gynae I saw said its very common as you get into 2nd trim and it would probably happen again... Hope this helps, try not to panic! Xx

have had this on and off since week 8, only a little bit. My midwife has asked me to avoid sex until my twenty week scan on the 6th Jan as they want to check its not related to the placenta. Although I think its my cervix as has surgery on that last december, definitely get checked out for your own piece of mind though

Sounds like it could be from your cervix if it was post coital - shame maternity triage won't see you :(
You could call your GP (or GP OOH) or go to A&E who can hopefully reassure you - I think baby will be just fine :) It is useful to have someone look at your cervix in this situation so that you are aware if it happens again what the cause is (could be an ectropion).

Another consideration - what is your blood type? If rhesus negative you would need an anti-D injection so defo need to see someone
