Going home early from work

31 weeks pregnant (tomorrow) and hardly slept last night. I'm totally shattered, my hips and back are hurting and to top it off I have an antenatal class tonight from 7pm - 9.30pm which is paid for and I'm not willing to miss.

Would it be terrible form to ask my boss if I can leave at, say, 3pm (hour commute home) so I can maybe have a nap and some food before the class?! I usually finish at 5pm.

I wouldn't be telling work your going to ante natal class. won't go down well that your too tired for work but want to go to a class that isn't compulsory even if it is paid for.

I wouldn't mention the class to anyone.

I would be a bit pissed off to find a colleague was too tired to work but not too tired to socialise ( I'm using that word to describe your class) and that they got to go home early for your trouble.

Pregnancy covered your for many things but not sure this is one of them

That's why I asked cos I know it's really cheeky! They know I'm going to a class tonight because its been authorised to finish 30 mins earlier (take a shorter lunch) in order to get there on time.

Dammit.

30 mins kip in the canteen it is then!

Could you ask about leaving early and offer to make the time up?

JennyBlueWren · 16/12/2014 14:24

Depends on your job and your relationship with colleagues/boss. If your work is the sort you could make up at another time or you could take a half day holiday then you can always ask.
In my job I can't take a half day but if I'm looking exhausted my boss might suggest I leave sharp. Once I was meant to go on a course (with boss) from 5-7pm and there was also a works drinks do at 7pm at other end of town. I was exhausted but she suggested I skip the course (and she would fill me in) and go home for a rest to enjoy the night out!!!

My boss has already commented on how tired I look. I'm a PA but my Mat Cover has started already so it could work. I feel a bit better after some chocolate though, just hope I don't fall asleep during the class ha!

Just say you have a medical appointment, who's to know??

MaltedMilkBiscuits · 16/12/2014 15:57

Ah it's too late now anyway.
