Skull theory.. What is it?

I've heard of this skull theory, but it's never been explained to me.

So how does it work and any idea's?

Babies hand is up by it's nose, it's not really that big!

There was no such thing as skull theory when I was pregnant with my first in 2011 - only nub theory. Now I'm expecting my second and seeing posts about skull theory all over the place.

So I Googled and it seems to have been invented by a woman on another parenting forum. I really don't think there's any credence or scientific basis to it at all.

I can't make out the shape of the skull well on this pic but then I don't have any confidence in my skull theory skills anyway. Are you wanting to guess the sex? I think I can see a nub, you might get better results asking people to speculate based on the nub theory instead. X

My consultant said there's no truth in the skull theory but there is in the nub theory between 11-14 weeks.

The nub is the bits lol!
If it can be seen and is at more than a 30 degree angle upwards to the spine, it's a boy, if in a relatively straight line to the spine, it's a girl.

Nub theory is only useful if you can nearly see the nub in the scan. I can't see anything on yours, op.

No, you need a clear full body photo that shows the area where the genitals will be!

No the scan pic cuts off that bit unfortunately.

Guys, are you sure you can't see a nub on the first pic? I sure I can see a white line... But the other two photos are no help.

I want to know how the nub and skull theory's work and any guesses but i don't think you can from the pictures

Boys are meant to have flatter foreheads and girls have round shaped ones, I'd say your baby's looks more boyish.
I spent hours googling it with dd1 because I was desperate to find out what I was having and she did have a very round head as does the girl I'm carrying now.

I can't do links on my phone but have a look on Google images about male/female skull shapes and it highlights the differences, girls also tend to have pointier chins.

The nub theory is a white line that shows up around 12 weeks on scans which is part of the urinary tract. In boys it shows up at a 30-45degree angle to the spine, and in girls it is vertually flat following the direction of the spine with no angle. Do a google images search of the nub theory.

When I looked at your first picture I thought I could see the White line just at the very left edge of the picture.... But now the other ladies have made me doubt if what I'm looking at us actually the nub at all.

Had I not read the other posters comments I would have assumed the line was the nub, which follows the direction of the spine perfectly, and therefore I would have guessed GIRL! But perhaps take this guess with a pinch of salt until other nub-stars come along and give thier verdict. X

No, I can't see a clear nub. It should look like a clear white line. Have a look at the link I posted above for some good examples.
