Light brown discharge & cramps at 6 weeks

dannyg · 11/10/2006 14:44

Hia i am 6 weeks pregnant and only found out last tuesday that i was pregnant, i had been having light brown discharge and put it down to an early period but did a test anyway which was positive. from that day on a kept getting the light brown discharge, but by the thursday i had a pain in my right side so i went to the doctors who refered me strait away to gynae to rule out eptopic, i had a scan which showed a sac and just about saw a yolk but no fetal pole. they said the missing fetal pole was either because it was to early to scan or i had lost it and to scan again in two weeks!! or come back if i start passing clots. It is now almost a week on and i am still having light brown discharge and cramps on and off.Anyone else have this

I know exactly what you are going through I had the same thing when I was pregnant with DS - it is a very worrying couple of weeks. Take things easy and try to stay positive. I went on to have an uncomplicated pregnancy and I hope you do too - good luck for your next scan.

Benj1 · 11/10/2006 20:05

I had the same thing. My doctor told me that as it wasn't fresh red blood then don't worry to much as brown discharge means its old blood.

I started bleeding at 5 weeks, I went for a scan and they could just make out a sac, I was told to go back 2 weeks later...at that scan you could see a heartbeat and a big blob!!! Its amazing.

I did bleed all the way through my pregnancy, my midwife said that bleeding is common but not normal so I had to be checked out all the time. They couldn't find a reason for the bleeding and I went on to have a very healthy 8lb boy!!

Good luck and I hope it all goes well

dannyq

I had a very similar experience to you - the spotting went on until 10wks & DD is now almost 10 months, so things can work out okay, fingers crossed it's the same for you.

It's awful being in limbo though

dannyg · 12/10/2006 16:34

Hi dannyg. I feel for you, the waiting is a nightmare. I had brown bleeding in last preg, DD now 3, and in current preg, now 17 weeks. Early pregnancy units are normally really good with this and should see you if you insist, get your GP to refer you again. If you are 7 weeks, fetal heartbeat should be visible. Thinking of you and hoping it all works out.

hayhay · 17/10/2006 17:04

oh wonderful! congratulations. Just read this thread feeling sad for you because a similar thing happened to me at 10 weeks but there was no heartbeat

Hope your pregnancy continues healthily!

Daisypops · 25/10/2006 15:03

Wonderful news Dannyg. Take it easy now and enjoy your pregnancy. x

lucykate · 25/10/2006 15:12

bleeding in early pregnancy, both brown and red, is so unpredictable imo. i suffered with it alot, bled until 23 wks with dd, but obviously went on to have a healthy baby, but have also had 2 more pregnancies since during which i bled but miscarried both times. ds was my 4th pg, and the only one i didn't bleed with.

good luck to all of you having early bleeding, it doesn't always mean the worst is happening, [fingers crossed for you emoticon]

SarahLG · 25/10/2006 15:18

Hi Dannyg. This is great news. If you see a fetal heartbeat, chances of miscarriage fall to approx 5% apparently. Also, sickness is a really good sign as it means the pregnancy is likely to be well established.

fussymummy · 25/10/2006 16:06

I had this with my first pregnancy.

Went on for a few days, but was told to rest.

Had lovely pregnancy and he was born 8 days early weighing 8lb 2oz.

He's 8 now.

Had problems with both my girls as well.

They were both ok.

Try to relax, easier said than done.

Hope it all works out ok.

dannyg · 26/10/2006 15:11

I would like to thank you all for your advice and support, and anyone going through this or had been through this i really feel for you all as it is a very difficult time to go through.
Thank you x x

I had this with both girls.

They were both born full-term and healthy.

Best of luck to you!

Vicky21 · 16/11/2006 14:00

Hello,

I am very concerned and worried, i am 21 years old i am 6 weeks and this morning i have noticed when i went to the toilet a brown discharge i have had a few mild twingey cramps this week. I have an appointmnet at my hospital tommorow morning luckily! But i just feel very stressed and have an awful feeling. Should i be getting in such a state? It doesnt help that i have a lot of friends with babys and this has never happend to them!!!

sarahsausage · 16/11/2006 15:58

Hi vicky,

If i remember correctly brown blood is old blood and not so much of a concern, i think the biggest concern is if it's fresh red blood.

I'm sure someone who knows will be along to help shortly, and i know its easier said than done but try not to worry. Hope everything is ok for you hun.

posyparker · 16/11/2006 17:27

Vicky21, I had exactly the same thing at about 5 to 6 weeks, with really aawful cramps. Am now 32 weeks and huge! I gather it's quite common and generally nothing to worry about. Hope all goes well for you xx
