Anyone else here suffering?

I'm almost 33 weeks with Baby number 3 but my 1st GD pregnancy.

I'm currently on 500mg of Metformin Slow Release 4x a day and insulin twice a day.

I see the obstetrician and diabetes consultant every 2 weeks along with a growth and doppler scan and then see the midwife every week inbetween.

I'm having a girl and 2 weeks ago she was measuring on the 99th centile and I've had another 2 weeks of uncontrolled sugars so I'm dreading my scan on Tuesday and seeing how much she has grown again. I have no risk factors so we were all very surprised with the outcome of my GTT!

Anyone else in the same boat?

They've said 37/38 weeks but it all depends on scans and my levels.

I've had a really rough time so I'd be happy at 37 weeks for induction to be honest.

Baby is doing well although on the larger size they think that at 37 weeks she'll be about 8-9lb.

It's so difficult being a veggie and sometimes I just don't fancy a meat replacement product. And although I'm not usually at all fussy I'm at that stage where I have to realky fancy something to eat it.

Went for breakfast with my eldest DD this morning and I had scrambled egg, grilled tomato, 2 x hash brown and mushrooms, added an extra few units and got a nice e 6.9! was so pleased and I actually enjoyed it too!!

I'll be 36 weeks when I have scan on nye but they are worried his growth has slowed too much he is between 4 1/2 lbs at the moment due to sugars possibly damaging placenta which has frankly terrified me so I'm now counting his movements in case they decrease. Just want him here safe and sound. Should start me off 37/38 week s too.

RunningAwayFromMyMind · 20/12/2014 17:11

It's all such a worry, I panic if I realise I've not felt anything for a few hours

I haven't had to use insulin as I'm diet controlled currently, but did have to learn to inject myself as we went through IVF. It is an absolute doddle Beetie, honestly! This is coming from a woman who was PETRIFIED of needles prior to treatment and would be sobbing even at the mention of 'blood test', now I feel like a pro! I found the first time was the hardest, but not because of pain, just because it's a weird thing to watch, injecting yourself. The needles are MUCH smaller than you think and it got to the point where I would do it in the passenger seat of the car on the way to work Wink I hope your consultant appointment goes well!

soph my last scan showed some restriction in the blood flow going to baby (which can cause growth problems), which they have blamed on the GD. I was petrified, but the midwife was great and said "If we were that concerned you would be staying here with us!" This was only last week and since then I've had two more scans, an additional consultant appointments and a CTG on Friday morning - They're being really good. We have another growth scan on Tuesday to see how he's doing and will take it from there.

Currently making fudge, truffles and rocky road for our christmas hampers, it's hell! I admit I've been a little naughty and licked some chocolate fom my finger and stolen a malteser Blush

sophspot · 20/12/2014 20:29

Tiggy did your last 2 scans show increase in growth ?

tiggy2610 · 20/12/2014 22:09

His last two scans showed that he was still 'following the curve' but they did say they were a little too close together to get an idea of how his growth was really progressing. Tuesday will be a week since the last growth scan so fingers crossed it hasn't slowed down.

sophspot · 21/12/2014 10:38

Mmm it's interesting having read a huge thread from 2010 re about gestational diabetes, a good percentage were small babies, but every consultant I've seen has only talked about extra large babies Good luck next week. Flowers

tiggy2610 · 22/12/2014 16:52

Today I was naughty and indulged in a few (5Blush) chocolate truffles while I was baking…bloods an hour later were 5.4?!Yet I can't manage beans on toast without them shooting through the roof Hmm

Lots of BHs today and growth scan first thing tomorrow morning, lets see how the little one is doing Smile

RunningAwayFromMyMind · 22/12/2014 19:13

I've had lowish readings all day today which surprised me a lot because I've not had an in range reading in 4 weeks, I celebrated this with a nice mince pie with lots of full fat cream which again didn't tip me over!

I'm feeling very smug but it also very unsettled that suddenly I'm getting 'good' readings! I shall however enjoy it whilst it lasts.

I'm hoping to get my induction date next week at the obstetrician appointment, I really need something to look towards.

I finally got round to packing my hospital bag this evening too so I think I'm all ready for her arrival now.

Wow running how exciting! I feel like I'm getting to that point in pregnancy now that I'm envious of people booking inductions and c-sections Xmas Confused I just want to meet him! Do you know when your induction date will be roughly?

I still haven't thrown together a hospital bag, I think in my head I've still got AGES left until I realise I have around 4-5 weeks and mild panic sets in.

Maybe it's just the Christmas gods looking down at us and giving us an easy week bloods wise? I haven't tried a mince pie (yet!) but after today's successful truffle experiment I think I might do Smile

RunningAwayFromMyMind · 22/12/2014 19:49

I've no idea when about 3 weeks ish if they want to do it at 37 weeks. It depends on my next scan and bloods etc.

It's so close but yet so far away!

I'm already planning my Christmas dinner feast!

It's all very exciting but at the same time I am crapping it! My other 2 are older so I've forgotten the newborn/toddler stage Blush

Like LancashireTea, I also have high readings in the morning, often.
I find that something no one tells you but I have observed in myself (and also confirmed with some googling), is that bad sleep also gives bad numbers -- especially morning numbers.
It's of course hard to sleep with a big bump, aches and pains, and weird dreams, but on nights where I am able to actually get a good 8 hours, my morning readings are quite good. I had a very bad night recently and my morning reading was the worst yet.

How has everyone coped today?

For breakfast I had Scrambled egg, grilled tomatoes and a hash brown, got a 6.7!

Lunch was a traditional roast (Minus the meat but had a quorn roast) I was very naughty and had roast potatoes and honey roasted parsnips and carrots, stuffing, Yorkshire pud and loads of veg and got a 8.2 so not too bad considering.

Dinner was quorn roast leftovers with cranberry sauce in a sandwich Shock got a 7.9!
I did add a few extra units of insulin to account for it all bit I feel no guilt at all because it was amazing. also sneaked in a few cookies!

I'm 34 weeks today and I'm next at the clinic on Tuesday and hopefully get my induction date. fingers crossed.

I'm absolutely shattered today and have terrible backache but just on my right hand side and I've not stopped all day. DC have taken themselves to their rooms to watch their new DVDs so I'm now relaxing on the sofa.

Happy Christmas all Grin Grin

Merry Xmas everyone. Had no breakfast lunch was 9.1 so high for me but don't know why as it was not your normal lunch mil tried very hard to make something veggie and diabetic, it was lovely I had brown rice & roasted squash with chestnuts served with sweet potato cakes and puy lentils with crispy seaweed. Sounds odd but was delicious. Didn't have supper just tiny bit of Xmas pudding. Completely over done it though travelling about had very achey bump in the evening to the point I had to go to bed as so sore. Hope everyone having good time. Tiggy how was your growth scan this week X

RunningAwayFromMyMind · 28/12/2014 08:59

The longer you go without food (skipping meals) will make your levels higher because your body dumps sugar to the blood, that's why they advise to snack between meals and also if you have a high fasting level to have a snack before bed.

I've had 4 days or so of perfect numbers and today after my breakfast they were High again which is very annoying. will see how the rest of the day goes and then will possibly have to up my insulin. Just a few weeks left to go!

I'm also slightly fed up of insomnia now Angry

OP posts:
sophspot · 28/12/2014 16:48

I know I hate not having breakfast sadly anything I eat or drink before noon ish ends up coming back up, had horrific vomiting for 4 months now, mornings are worst but can appear any time. It drains me being so sick Sad but I've learnt to manage it now. Last couple days reading s been fine but having to be super strict X

RunningAwayFromMyMind · 30/12/2014 15:30

Hope everyone's doing Ok?

I had my Clinic appointment and scan today, I'm 34+5 and baby is measuring about 6lb!

They've upped my insulin again and I'm back again next week and hopefully get my induction date Smile

I'm really starting to struggle now and am tired and snappy all the time, i'm a right miserable cow, Just getting around the shops or being on my feet for a while does me in.

Oh well, the end is in sight at least.

Can I join in? I am currently 32 weeks and only hit a letter on Saturday stating I had gestational diabetes and to come to clinic on Monday.

Met the diabetes nurse and dietician yesterday am on diet controlled for This week and will be reviewed next week by them and the obstetrics team next Monday.

Apparently I won't have a scan till 34 weeks.

Any good tips for food etc?

RunningAwayFromMyMind · 30/12/2014 21:33

Of corse you can!

Food wise a lot of people can't tolerate bread or cereals, the best diet for GD is high fat believe it or not!

You need carbs but to swap to Brown/wholemeal, lots of people can't tolerate any carbs or sugar but we do need them so it's not a good idea to cut them out.

Putting cheese or fat with carbs helps the sugars to release slower so you don't get such a spike.

It's difficult because everyone is different and everyone's bodies react differently to different foods and GD is so frustrating because what works one day may not work another.

Had a positive scan today, little one has grown so I felt much better. Booked for a scan in two weeks at 37 weeks. Consultant happy to let me carry on diet control to control GD as happy with my readings ( 3 overs in 2 weeks) Scan showed his head engaged and in a good position Smile

RunningAwayFromMyMind · 31/12/2014 19:21

That's great news! The end is in sight!

OP posts:
Purpletoes · 01/01/2015 23:26

That's great news sophspot. Will keep fingers crossed for you.

I am slowly getting to grips with the sugars and eating properly. I had a 7.5 this morning after a banana natural yoghurt and a sprinkling of homemade granola very much a tiny wrinkling so that is off my breakfast list. Had an Indian takeaway last night and that was fine. We had lots of veg and I had a tandoori grill.

It's hard dealing with the diagnosis. This pregnancy hasn't been easy from the beginning. I had lots of anxiety at the beginning. And since I have had a breast lump cystic thankfully and a small bleed at 29 weeks s well as the diabetes.

Hopefully it will go smoother from here. Seems like an eternity till Monday when I have an appointment with the obstetrician and I will have a chance to chat about my options.

Hope everyone had a good nye

RunningAwayFromMyMind · 02/01/2015 21:13

I'm currently in hospital as I have had a pounding headache since yesterday and keep having hypos Sad

I feel horrid, babies heart rate is all over the place and my BP is unsurprisingly raised (no doubt through stress)

They've given me Paracetamol, codine and morphine but nothing has shifted it.

No plan as yet but waiting to see what the doctors say.

Oh no running, fingers crossed you see the doc soon and get some answers. Hope you have a good night. Flowers
