What are people's experiences of a scan at 7 weeks?

Hi ladies,

I have a scan today (I hope), have an appt at epu.
I have had a very small amount of brown/blood discharge.

I was wondering please what peoples experiences are of a scan at this early stage and what was or maybe wasn't found.

I had one at 7 weeks due to a previous MC and I thought this pregnancy was going the same way. It was an internal scan, so not particularly comfortable but all was ok and 5month old DD is lying next to me now. All the best

I had this in my last pregnancy following a mmc. Scan at 5 weeks to check what loss was. MW said it was the tiniest heartbeat she'd ever found & DD2 is now 3.
Good luck and stay positive, spotting is v common early in pregnancy

I've had both internal and external scans at that stage by 7 weeks you should see a little bean with a heartbeat. Good luck hope all goes well

I had a scan at six weeks and saw a blob with a heartbeat. They told me that they thought I was more like 5 weeks and asked me to come back at nine weeks as the pregnancy had 'uncertain viability.' I spent three weeks worrying and by the nine week scan they agreed with my dates, said it was nine weeks and all was fine. So don't worry if they say it seems smaller than seven weeks. Good luck with your scan.

We had a miscarriage at 5 weeks before having our beautiful daughter 2 years ago so the only experience I have of an early scan is negative....
Trying not to get my hopes up, but also want to be positive if that makes sense?

Had an NHS scan with DS at 7w 1d and it was literally just a blob but had that all important HB.

(we'd had 3 miscarriages prior to this pregnancy) and yes it was internal

With my current pregnancy I had a private scan at 7w and was amazed by how much you could see - it was an ultrasound as well. We'd had a 4th miscarriage between DS and current pregnancy.

Good luck at the scan!

I had a scan at 7+2. It was an external scan and we could see a little blob with a heartbeat. We could even hear the heartbeat. Apparently the yolk sac was still visible - not that I could tell what anything was!

I had a scan at 6 weeks after light bleeding. The baby was a tiny blob which was pulsating - apparently this was the heartbeat! Was told that they couldn't absolutely reassure me until 9 weeks but that it was reassuring to see the heartbeat. As I had no more bleeding I then just had to wait for the routine 12 week scan. All was ok and ds will be 1 next week!

I had one at 7 weeks was a normal abdominal scan saw a tiny blob with a heartbeat. Good luck

I had one at 8 weeks. As others said main thing I could identify was a little heart beating away. I cried my eyes out (had had bleeding so thought was mc). What I was unprepared for was sitting in the waiting area. I'd left my phone at home and so sat watching all these happy very pregnant women whilst I was beside myself with worry. Take a book and headphones, get whoever with you to listen out for your name.

Had a scan at 8 weeks due to bleeding. It's an internal so a little uncomfortable. The midwife couldn't initially see the heartbeat-although we could clearly see the sac-Dh pointed it out to her. I was asked to come back the following week as a precaution and saw a much clearer heartbeat that week.

I hope you get on well with your scan.

Thank you so much for your thoughts girls.

It went well and we saw a tiny heartbeat!!
They did say they could see the area where they feel the bleed came from and that I may get a bit more it it will just absorb back into body.
There was also some liquid around a certain star which could be from ovulation or an infection and they checked with the registrar in case any further checks were needed but he was happy to wait until 12 week scan xx

im so glad it all went well. i had bleeding with my first pregnancy at 5 weeks had a scan (internal one) at 5 and 7 weeks no heartbeat at 5 weeks heartbeat at 7 weeks. its so scary. dd was a pain i had a bad bleed at 28 weeks with her too and all was fine with her she went into distress during labour so was a emergency c section. they really know how to scare you dont they? had no problems with my second but ds didnt want to come out so another c section. this time around i lost a twin at 9 and half weeks but surviving baby is doing well and im 24 weeks with him altho he has given me a few scares along the way too. keeping mummy on her toes little rascal

I've had two 7 week scans. The first is now a strapping 12 year old and the second ended at 9 weeks. There was very little difference between the reasons for the scans - except that at the first (now DD) I was told by the GP that I had had a mc. Having been through a third - seamless but worry-full after the two previous - pregnancy I had to come to terms with the fact that there is nothing you can do to affect the outcome at this stage. It is beyond your control. I am glad that all is well, hopefully you can relax and enjoy the next 7 or so months.
