Mild Cramps and Brownish Blood at 6 weeks - help?!

Apologies in advance for (probably) being over paranoid - I'm around 6 weeks, not had a Midwife appointment yet but briefly saw a GP last week to confirm pregnancy.

All has been well - not many symptoms apart from insanely tender boobs. But last night I started to get cramps (they're mild to me as I have horrendous period cramps usually). Cramps continued today, just on and off - didn't think much of it till I went to the loo and (sorry .... TMI coming up) when I wiped, my urine was tinged brown. In the way my urine would be tinged pink at the start of a period, but this was definitely a different colour.

Normal? Do I need to chill out about it? Or should I get this checked out? Don't want to be that overly needy preggy lady who calls the midwife every other day!

I had this throughout my first tri on DD1, nothing to be alarmed about unless you see proper red bleeding. It freaked me out too :) Best of luck.

I had this too, i also had spotting at 8 weeks (with red blood) and at 12 weeks (after i had a bad cough and cold) so i have come to the conclusion i have a sensitive cervix!
Aches and pains tend to be relatively normal, i am 15 weeks now and get quite uncomfortable round ligament pain.
I would ring the GP if you are really concerned, but i am sure all is well.

One thing i have learnt about being pregnant is that there is no 'normal' pregnancy. As much as everything official online says 'blood is bad' and 'pain is bad' i have not spoke to one person who HASNT has some spotting or pain in pregnancy. So more often that not it is normal :D

It's quite normal.

I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry, the blood is brownish so is old, hopefully just implantation bleeding. Put your feet up and get in touch with your local EPAU/NHS24 if the pain or bleeding gets worse or if you have shoulder pain. Don't stress about being overly needy, just do what you think you need to do. All the best.

I had this at six weeks and unfortunately a week later was admitted to hospital for an ectopic pregnancy. As the other posters have said, it could be nothing, but I'd get it checked out by your gp just to be on the safe side, they can advise you further. They can refer you to your local early pregnancy unit to be in the safe side for a scan. It could be nothing as some bleeding can be normal and I really hope it is but please get it checked out. As someone said, there's no such thing as normal, every woman is different. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that it's nothing xx

Its good to know that they do check things out seriously - I'm used to GP waving me off with 'one of those things' (period cramps, anaemia)

Wharm14 I'm so sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy, I hope all is well now? - and thank you for urging me to get it checked out. I'm going to see how it is in the morning and give the Drs a call. My Mam had an ectopic pregnancy when I was a teen, I don't suppose its hereditary, but probably worth mentioning to the MW when I see her.

Upnorth74, I'm glad I could help a little by sharing my experience. I'm not sure if it's heriditary, the ectopic pregnancy trust have an amazing website which provided me with lots of information, they also have a helpline you can call. After 6 weeks off work I've physically recovered, I think the emotional healing will take longer though. I hope you have good support in real life, always happy to talk more if you need to PM me. You'll be in my thoughts and don't take no for an answer with your GP, trust your instincts and ask for a referral for a reassurance scan if you feel you would like one. X

Keep an eye on it. My first time I had this at 5 weeks and all was fine. Second time I started bleeding brown stuff at 9 weeks and after a week had a scan confirming mc. Best advice I had was: if you have mc there's nothing you can do about it so there's nothing to be gained by worrying. If still bleeding after 5-6 days go to GP. Good luck x

Thank you so much Wharm14, that is so kind. I'll be sure to let you know how I'm getting on. It's crazy to think it takes that long to recover - I don't remember much about my Mans experience, but I remember her being in so much pain (she didn't know she was pregnant, as far as I'm aware).

I went to my yoga class as usual this evening, and cramps werent terrible, so fingers crossed a good feed and a sleep (and all your positive vibes) will see me right n the morning.

I've had 3 bleeds in total ranging from pink mucus when I wiped to bleeding through a pad. Turns out I have an ectropian cervix, Google it. It's very very common and the cause of a lot of small bleeds. Mine is large and angry and at 18 +4 I am starting to worry less. I've had cramping all pregnancy too. It's probably not much to worry about if it gets heavy or fresh ask your go fora referral to an early pregnancy clinic. Good luck

Hiya, thanks so much for checking in I spoke to the midwife on the phone, she assured me it sounded normal but to monitor it over the weekend. It's still marking a pad with brown blood throughout the day, but I feel a teeny bit less anxious having spoken to someone.
She's going to call back on Monday to see if all is well. Just trying to relax and go easy on my body x

I was really impressed with how quick a Midwife got in touch. I rang the docs receptionist (who was just lovely) and within 5 mins a community midwife called me, as the surgery midwife was on holiday.

Feeling much better about it today. It's still lingering but getting a little less each day.

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead, but I need to put this into writing typing.

Brown blood carried on, on/off for a couple of weeks. I spoke with the midwife again and she wasn't too worried as there was no pain, but booked me in for an early scan to ease my mind.

Night before my scan, the cramps started. Just the same and as irritating as period cramps. The brown blood turned red. Sobbing, my OH urged me to let him take me to A&E, but I didn't see the point - I knew what was happening and I'd rather be at home than sat with a load of drunks in a waiting room (it was a sat night/sun morning). But he insisted, and I'm glad he did.

I was whisked away from A&E within minutes and on a quiet gyne ward where I was seen within 20 mins. I'll spare the details, but it was a suspected miscarriage, confirmed by my scheduled scan the next day.

Heeding all advice from above posts - it done, there is nothing I could have done. It doesn't stop the heartache, but I've got great support from my OH and our mums.

I'm so so sorry to hear your very sad news UpNorth74, all our thoughts are with you and your OH at this difficult time.

It sounds like you've had the best of care and I'm so glad to hear you have great support in real life. Love and hugs to you both, you'll have some good days and some bad days, try and take comfort from those around you. I found that sharing my story with others helped me through some tough days, unfortunately lots of other women have a story to tell I've usually found, whilst that doesn't take your pain away, their empathy and understanding is comforting sometimes.

Take care of yourself, hold your OH tight and take each day at a time.

UpNorth I'm so sorry for your loss. I had 2 x miscarriages this year. 5 weeks and 9 weeks but I'm now on my 3rd pregnancy at 6+2.

I know only too well the pain you are feeling. When you are ready the TTC after mc thread in conception is wonderful. Kept me going through my darkest times.

Oh upnorth i am so so so sorry for your loss! Thinking of you and big hugs. I can fully empathise with you, i suffered a MC in June, it is awful and the only advice i have is to let yourself grieve. I tried for too long to convince everyone i was fine, its ok to be upset/angry. Glad you have great support around you.

It seems to come and go - last night I felt eerily calm but today I just got ridiculously upset after cancelling my booking appointment!

I hope to be joining you soon on the thread Brummiegirl15 ... Though I just can't imagine TTC right now. In time though, I'm sure!

My OH's Mam has said a few times that people can fall PG really quickly after MS - how long did you girls wait? Until you'd had another period? I have no idea when bodies start up the cycle again or anything.
