When does that brown belly button line malarky appear?

I'm 26+5 and think I can see the vaguest of shadows, like a faint bruise, in two areas below my belly button, from a distance they look like they might be the start of that brown line thing.

I can't say I'm ecstatic about the prospect of this appearing, but im fully expecting it. So when does it normally arrive, is it a gradual build up, how soon does it disappear after the birth and what's it's real name?

I am very pale and also mine went far above belly button and I had boys. 2 myths busted

Strangely, I've always had a faint line, as long as I can remember. It's more of a cross, but at 25 weeks the downward line is getting darker. Fully expected it, but think it's a really odd thing to have!!

I've always had a faint line to be honest since a child, strangely :S I think mine will just get darker.

I thought it tends to develop or (if already there) darken when the belly gets quite large late in pregnancy.

I had it in both, up to my belly button. Can't remember when it came or when it went, but it did go both times. It wasn't that noticeable. I'm quite pale, and it was just the colour of a tan line, rather than as if someone had drawn on me with a dark brown felt tip. Never thought it was a big deal.

I have had once since about 14 weeks! and I am casper white. Right from my bikini line up to ribs.

Turns out it wasn't the linea nigra for me, just two huge stretch marks in a perfect mid line position. Still no sign of the real linea nigra appearing. I was fully expecting stretch marks with twins, so no surprise, in fact I'm thinking that so far I'm getting off quite lightly.

I have a faint one already and I am only 16 weeks, also fair skinned. Noticed it a couple of weeks ago, stops at my belly button at the moment

In my first pregnancy it appeared around 20 weeks. Second pregnancy, around 38 weeks and much fainter. Both times from belly button upwards?! Weird. Took ages to fade after dc1. Almost gone now after dc2 (12wks).
