Just found out I'm pregnant, been in relationship for only 6 months!

Hi

I am new to mums net, having just found out I'm pregnant (very early days). I'm nearly 42 and have only been in my current relationship for 6 months. It's a wonderful, committed relationship, however I'm worried how massive this is and that it's too soon for us - he has two children (6 and 10 yrs) from a former relationship. He's a great dad.They don't live with him, they live with their mum.

I've not even told him yet, am letting the news sit with me for a bit....However, I will clearly need to call him later today. We live in different cities, 60 or so miles apart and had been talking about moving in together, although not immediately!

This seems like great news on the one hand, I'm excited. However, also very scared, we're both self employed, live apart, our relationship is in the honeymoon phase. Does anyone have any similar (positive!) experiences please? And any advice on what to do initially would be most welcome. I'm guessing I need to go to the Doctor's as a first point of call and of course, tell my man...x

I am happy I'm pregnant, I don't have any children. I was with my ex husband for 7 years and we thought we couldn't have kids so its all come as a bit of a shock...;-)

I had 2teenage DCs and then found myself pregnant also at 42, 3 months into my new relationship. Fast forward 2 years and DC3 is now 13 months and we are happier than ever, it was unexpected but the best thing

I also had only been in a very new relationship of only two weeks! We conceived the first time we ' went there ' ! Unexpected, disappointed parents and a huge life changing decision... I'm now 32 weeks living in a cottage with my loving better half and couldn't be happier ! There's always a silver lining ! Keep smiling ??

My parents were in a relationship for a month when they found out they we're having me, the lived separately and didn't really know each other too well, however that was 23 years ago and they are still together happily married

I found out I was pregnant about 8 weeks into a relationship, aged 16! DS is the best thing that ever happened, ever. He's now 8 years old and his Dad and I are married with baby number 3 due in February! I think what matters is that you have 2 parents willing to be the best parents they can be (whether they are a couple or not) and that you all do what's best for the child. Sod what anyone else thinks or how long you've been together. It is what you make it.

I found out I was pregnant yesterday. We split up about a month ago after 2 years together. I am also 42 and utterly in shock! I am single parent to DS 10 now so guess I can do it again

Congratulations OP! Yes get to the GP, although in some areas you self refer straight to the mw. In my area the GP refers. Are you on folic acid as you'll need to start it.

Hi thanks for the advice everyone, will get on the folic acid right away. Well, yes I always knew there was a chance I could get pregnant and it does feel like last chance saloon so all good!

I have now spoken to my boyfriend and fortunately he is excited and pleased!! A massive relief. Xxx

Woohoo i'm excited for you. I have only been with my OH for 10 months we found out I was expecting a couple of weeks ago. Not planned. Just got our heads around it, sent in to hospital for an early internal scan due to a couple of scares and found out it was id twins. Ha ha. We're fine now though and just looking forward to my 12 week scan.

Another positive outcome here too, got preg with DS1 a few weeks after meeting my boyfriend (both 18) now 12 years later, been married 9 years and baby 5 on the way (as you probably guessed by the user name)

Me and my partner had only been together 6 months and had just moved in together when we concieved. Not planned, but we are happy, excited and we have a lot of support so were very lucky. Congratulations!

Congratulations!!!! My OH and I were only together 6 months when I fell pregnant the first time. That was 11 years ago and we are still going strong. We now have two girls and two more on the way : )
