sore front thigh muscles?

hi all

is it common to get sore front thigh muscles during pregnancy? it feels like I've pulled both muscles but I haven't been doing anything different and no exercise that would strain them. It's only over the past few days I've noticed this.

Hi, i experience a similar feeling. that and sore inner thighs of whilst trying to sleep. i have been sleeping with a cushion in between my legs to relieve the pressure which in turn has prevented the aching in my thighs overall. i am now 31+3.
Hope all is going well otherwise with our pregnancy.

I have found recently that the muscles in the front of my legs right up in my groin area have been tired/sore. Not sure what is going on there!! 30+2 today.

It could be SPD. I'm 27 weeks pg with my first and over last 3 weeks have developed sore inner thigh muscle pain especially when getting in and out of bed. Keeping legs closed when moving in and out of bed helps. I think it's SPD from what I've been reading and will mention to midwife/go if it continues or gets worse. Good luck!

Yes my physio for spd said it's because when your pelvis is less stable the thigh muscles have to work harder to compensate. I have found using a hot water bottle between my thighs quite soothing.

I had that from about 11 weeks I know how you feel, it's like you've been doing squats the day before. I now have PGP and pyhsio has helped a bit but not got rid of the problem x

Could it be your hip flexor muscles (have a google - I'm on my phone and can't find a good link)? These are big muscles that run up the front of your thighs and into your groin/pelvis.

If you are tucking your tail bone under you too much in an attempt to re-balance the weight of your bump then you will be putting strain on your hip flexors. You can feel for yourself if they are overly engaged by resting your fingertips along the ridge of muscle that you will feel just below and to the outside of your hip bone and placing your thumb on your glutes on the other side of your hip joint. If your pelvis is tilted back, your hip flexors will feel hard and your glutes soft. You need to rotate your pelvis forward, sticking your arse out slightly until the flexors go soft and your glutes engage. You also need to check (look in a mirror) to see that your knee is over your ankle and your hip is over your knee. You may find that you are leaning forward slightly and need to correct this.

I don't know how good a description this is- a trip to a physio should give you pointers as to how you correct this.

Thanks for the responses Smile ill definitely look into the hip flexor muscles and check my posture. my back has been sore too, and my posture has always been terrible so that's what it must be!
