Very low Papp-a levels

Just wondering if anyone has any information on this.

Had the triple test for DS a week ago. My risk has come back as 1:1700 so very low. However, my Papp a level was 0.08!!! Seems to be very very low.

The only info they've given me is that it could be linked to small babies. I've got additional scans at 28 and 34 weeks. I just don't know how much I need to worry about all this

I would definitely ask, I think they normally do them about 24 weeks but they did mine at 22 weeks, so it could be worth asking when you go for this one!

KittyandTeal · 28/12/2014 08:12

I'll ask, although maybe they won't be able to at 18 weeks. Might be one for the 21 week scan.

It's really good to be able to share these things and be a bit more clued up on things to ask for.

I'm starting to get that jittery, nervous feeling. Think I'll probably feel like this before every scan and appointment now!

Ah scanxiety Wink it's quite common I think!

Great phrase :)

Thanks.

Scan went well. It's another little girl which is lovely.

Everything seems to be ok, couldn't do full check on spine, face or heart as it was an early scan so they'll recheck those in a few weeks but she said everything looked as it should.

Her stomach measurement was pretty small. She's on the lower end of all the scales so obviously little but the sonographer didn't think it was anything to worry about, she might be a little one. It's the growth between the scans that they'll worry about.

She also checked my uterine arteries and said they look fine but they'll check again at the 21 week scan to get another good look.

I'm relieved that nothing major is wrong but obviously it's not great that she's on the small side, especially as my dd was bloody massive so we (including the midwives) expected this one to be big too!

Congratulations on a girl! Thanks How lovely! It's good they checked everything they could for you and that you are back in a few weeks for a rescan! She might have a growth spurt in the next few weeks Grin

KittyandTeal · 29/12/2014 19:59

Yeah I'm hoping so. Tbh I'm not fussed if she's just naturally going to be a weeny one (might be a relief after mammoth dd) I'm just crossing my fingers for decent growth between the scans now.

It's just the waiting game now then for both of us? When is your next scan? Mine is 6th January so not too long! Smile

KittyandTeal · 30/12/2014 13:59

13th jan for me. I'm also moving house in between so I'm pretty sure the couple of weeks will fly by!

I think the relief is starting to sink in now :) Started discussing names yesterday which I've not allowed myself to do yet. And I'm starting to get excited now.

Aw lovely Smile a nice start to the new year then!

KittyandTeal · 13/01/2015 14:25

Had my thurs scan today.

Growth all seems good although she's a weeny one.

They picked up a small gap in her cerebellum so I've been referred for another scan at kings college this week with a fetal specialist. Apparently it's very small and if anything will lead to some minor developmental delay as far as she can tell.

All a bit worrying. Feels a bit like issue after issue. I guess of all the problems this is one of the minor ones but feels a bit of a shock after a zero problems pregnancy with my first.

Just waiting to hear when the kings scan is now.

Quick update:

Had pretty bad news from kings scan. Looks like baby has a trisomy 13 or 18, more likely to be 18. Either way she's not going to survive.

Waiting for the results of amnio. The blood work gave us a 1:45 chance then 4/5 soft markers were picked up on the scan so it's looking more likely than not.

If by some miracle it's not a trisomy at best case were looking at desperately trying to get to 28 weeks, 32 at most. Will also need scans every 2 weeks at kings plus cardiologist and MRI scans.

Even the very best case scenario (which I'm not holding much hope for) sees us with a very poorly, premature and small baby.

I'm shell shocked and numb atm. Yesterday morning we were looking at the possibility of minor developmental delay :(

Oh kitty I'm so so sorry to hear your news. I'm also really surprised- you combined test results were so low! You must be in shock. I wish I could say something helpful, but I'm really just stunned. I will be thinking about you and your little one, and praying for a good outcome. xxxx

KittyandTeal · 15/01/2015 11:13

Yeah we're very surprised although the team at kings weren't.

We're spending the next couple if days just doing nice things with our dd to try and distract ourselves a bit.

It's not looking good and in fully expecting to have to make the decision to finish this pregnancy in the next few days. I think, after looking at the symptoms and prognosis for trisomies 13 and 18 it's the only fair thing to do

ChatEnOeuf · 15/01/2015 17:33

I'm so sorry to hear that Flowers

If you're on facebook, look up Friends of Serenity and Emily's Star - they are groups for trisomy 13 and 18 respectively.

KittyandTeal · 16/01/2015 07:02

Thank you chat.

I am on FB so will definitely look those up. We've guessed that's it's probably trisomy 18 but we just won't know until the results later.

OP posts:
KittyandTeal · 19/01/2015 15:37

Well we got the news we were expecting.

Little girl has Edwards syndrome, trisomy 18. We are booked into kings tmrw for termination.

She'll be born on thurs. We're struggling to get our heads around it atm.

I probably won't post on here anymore, it's a bit grim for poor women on the pregnancy board.

I hope everyone has a positive outcome for their little ones xx

Kitty if you do check this before you leave the thread, I am so so sorry for your news. I was still holding out a little hope. It feels very cruel. I'll be thinking about you over the next few days and after that. Hope you and your family have plenty of support, and take good care of yourself. xxxx

KittyandTeal · 19/01/2015 18:11

Thank you.

I will come back and check but I won't be posting anymore about what's happening next. I don't think any pregnant woman needs to read that really.

I think we were pretty much expecting it but until someone confirms it you always have that tiny bit of hope.

KittyandTeal · 19/01/2015 18:13

We will be calling her Rose btw. We picked it as a favourite in the few weeks we believed everything was going to be ok. Seems silly to change it.
