Twin insurance

Hi,
Very early days for me, found out yesterday! There is a history of twins on both sides of the familes and have been on clomid so we are slightly concerned it could be two. I know people that have taken out insurance for twins but can't find anything useful on google. I don't want to ask the friends either as it's far too early. Has anyone on here taken out insurance?

No idea about insurance sorry. Just wanted to let you know that twins on your OH's side of the family have no effect on whether you will have twins. Also only fraternal (non-identical) twins run in families (identical twins where one fertilised egg splits into two are a random event). This is because the tendency for a woman to release two eggs in one cycle (hyper ovulation) can be genetic. So if you have any naturally occurring fraternal twins in your family this will increase your chances, I think it roughly doubles your chances if you are a fraternal twin or a member of your immediate family (siblings or one of your parents) is one. I'm not sure how much clomid increases your chances but I have heard of lots of twins conceived on it.

I think any kind of fertility treatment makes it damn near impossible to get insurance.

I looked into it and didnt get it. They rather naughtily have a clause about the babies needing to be born after x gestation, which with twins would commonly be too late.

I can't remember what companies actually did it though sorry.

Plus I don't think you can get it if you've had fertility treatment, so I think you'd be exempt anyway.

I've never heard of insurance for twins either.

Bluetrain twins insurance is supposed to pay out a lump sum of money if you give birth to twins, to help with the additional financial costs you would incur.

I had Clomid twins. The money would have been nice!

I think you need to take the insurance out before you become pregnant. So only works if baby planned. So if already pregnant then poss too late.

I looked into this briefly and most companies have stopped doing it. You had to take the insurance out before you had confirmation it's twins.

Also, there's new research to suggest that twins can come from the fathers side. There's meant to be a genetic link to the sperm splitting the egg and it not being a total random events. DP's family has a few set of identical twins that the doctors have suggested came down the male side.

blue train & artandco, you have to have taken it out before any scan takes place, so as soon as you know your pregnant.

Yes, recent research does say that identical twins are also more likely when already some in the family so some level of genetic likelihood there too.

Shame really as I'd always thought I and my sister were a freak if nature!
