Just been googling what will happen at my next midwife appointment and a lot of stuff came up about Strep B tests. I'm a bit upset my midwife hasn't warned me about this test. If I hadn't of googled it I would of bone to my midwives appointment and been put on the spot. Does anybody know why they can't take the test through blood? And why hasn't my midwife explained how this test will happen? Bit of a shifty rude thing to just spit g on people I think. I'm nit best impressed

Are you in the UK?

If so, GBS is not tested for routinely at any AN appointment.

So you are getting your knickers in a twist over nothing Confused.

Plus you can always decline any tests you don't want.
There's lots of good info about strep b so you may choose not to accept antibiotics just in case, even with a positive result.

What's your concern about the test?

AlwaysLurking38 · 22/11/2014 07:24

If it means having a healthy baby I'll.happily have the test, I'm just bit cross that I haven't been told that the tests will be vaginal & rectal Blush How embarrassing! Especially as I wouldn't of known it would of just been sprung on me. I just wish my midwife would of told me so I could of been prepared. And I don't mean clean ( I shower everyday lol ) I mean prepared in the sense of having things I side me!

Was just a bit of a shock reading g about it, hadn't heard of it before

Are you in the uk? Your midwife won't do it

Jodie1982 · 22/11/2014 09:09

I wish they would routinely test for it here.

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 22/11/2014 10:08

Where have you read this information? Strep B isn't tested for routinely in the UK which is why you haven't been 'warned', and it definitely won't be sprung on you. So calm down Smile.

In the UK the number of deaths from strep b is very low so they don't test for it. However, my midwife mentioned it and said that it is a private test but they will do the swabs.

A friend lost a baby during childbirth due to it and so I am having it with my 2nd but with my dd I never knew it was an option and so never did the test. The risk is very low but I would never forgive myself if this dc died because of something that could have been prevented.

Where have you read that you'll have this test? In an American baby book?
It Is not routinely tested in the uk. I wish it was as I had to pay for mine privately.
