Anyone have experience of a massive subchorionic haemorrhage?

I was diagnosed with a large SCH at 9 weeks when I had a bit of bleeding. I had some more light bleeding at 15 weeks and they refused to scan me despite the pain. Then at 16 weeks I haemorrhaged. I was blue-lighted in an ambulance to A&E. I was scanned the next morning and they discovered that there was still a massive concealed haemorrhage there which measured "from fundus to os". I was discharged after 3 days to then haemorrhage again. I've been scanned again and there is still a concealed haemorrhage of the same size which indicates that the area is re-filling after each haemorrhage.

The baby is totally fine and growing well but DH and I are finding this difficult. I'm being sent home again in the knowledge that I almost certainly will haemorrhage again and/or miscarry.

Does anybody have experience of an SCH this big in the second trimester. I believe it is rare to have one of this size and for this sort of situation to keep happening.

I currently have one half the size of the baby on the placenta. Was told to go in if bleeding a lot but there was nothing they can do for it sadly. Scared of bleeding - bled once so far. Am 13-4 weeks.

I am on aspirin anyway but not sure is some hospitals prescribe it or not for SCH.

SCH is more common if you're on something to thin your blood. It's not a treatment for SCH as it makes them worse. They used to use blood thinners years ago to try and make the area bleed out in the hope that it would resolve the issue but I believe that the miscarriage rate dropped when this treatment was no longer used. However, most SCH's are not a threat to the baby and if you are on aspirin then there must be a reason for it.

Having an SCH half the size of the baby is large but still within 'normal' ranges. Because mine is bigger than the baby, they really don't have a clue what the outcome will be. At least now that I've had revealed bleeding (previously it was mainly concealed so just showed on the scan) I'm getting more care to monitor the bleeding with scans when necessary so that they have an idea just how much blood I am losing. Oh, and frequent blood tests are now a feature of my care. Hopefully the bleeding will resolve soon...

Glad you got the scans and blood tests - hope haematoma reduces! I have 5 weeks til my next NHS scan, which scares me as my haematoma doubled in last 4 weeks between scans. The wait between tests and scans I am finding hard - hope your next one shows all ok for you both.

I am on clexane and aspirin due to 3 thrombophilias, a previous stroke and known reproductive immunises so have to trust the dr's. I was on same medication with my dc1 and had no haematoma at all, thankfully.

We are having a private scan this week at FMC as have been recommended to due to a high risk of chromosomal problems identified at 12 week scan, so am hoping they look at haematoma ( which was on placenta) and placenta as well in detail if baby is ok. Nerve racking wait for those results to come.

Has the bleeding reduced?

I had one at 5 weeks and bled until i was 7 weeks it was quite heavy. They are checking me again on Thursday which is my 12 week scan i wasnt given many details only that it is quite common. My sister had this with her last baby it was discovered at 12 weeks and they checked again at 20 week scan and it had disappeared and she went on to have a healthy baby. Afair with her they said if it was still there at the 20 weeks scan then they would monitor her and when she did bleed she had to go to hospital to get checked and monitored. This was a couple of years ago so.not sure of they still do it that way.

I bled very heavily again last night so was checked this morning. Baby still appears to be OK. I've just started another episode of bleeding again now. I am not going for another check again today. It's ridiculous. They want me to go in every time I bleed but I'm exhausted from it all.

Silverstars I imagine that they will look at the SCH but you may need to ask some questions about it for them to actually talk to you about it. I found that my SCH was very much ignored until I started haemorrhaging. I guess this is because they are rarely this problematic and do tend to clear up by about 20 weeks if they're going to.
