Please help, I can't wee at night???

I am 11+4 weeks pregnant, and apart from horrendous morning (all day) sickness, all good so far. Apart from this weeing issue. All day I go to the loo and wee straight away, no problem or pain. But of I have to get up in the night, which is normal for me pre pregnancy, I just cannot go. It really hurts, kind of like the 'valve' won't open?? It happens when I get up in the morning too, but after say 30 mins of being up, it's all back to normal again. It's painful, and my bladder is so full it hurts. Anyone had this, or knows what it is or can help me then please do xx

Yes, I get this when my bladder is really, really full. Weeing is a struggle and sometimes I only manage a small amount. I go back a short time later and manage to fully empty my bladder. This only happens VERY occasionally and it has nothing to do with pregnancy, for me.

Meant to add, as long as you try to avoid situations where your bladder gets full and stays full for a long time, such as when you're asleep, that should help. Maybe try to avoid big drinks before bed, and make sure you empty your bladder immediately before bed?

Thanks for replying so quickly diving, my only problem is that I am under strict instructions to keep very hydrated as I have sickness, and my migraines are coming thick and fast, and being really hydrated helps.

Anyone else out there with advice? I can't spend the next six months say on the loo for hours at a time in the middle of the night!! ;-)

Would it help if you try to move your toilet trip to a bit earlier in the night, or schedule an extra one and spread them out through the night, so it doesn't get so full? Maybe set a very quiet alarm or something till your habits change?

Well I went just before bed at about 9:45, and then woke at 10:45 and needed to go again and couldn't... Do you think its just the position of the baby, even though its teeny, rather than a uti?

yes it's unlikely to be a uti.
This can happen when the pressure of your bladder actually squashes the urethra closed, making it v diff to wee. The baby will b adding to this problem but should ease up by 2nd trimester.
I agree with pp you could try to empty your bladder before you get to that stage of feeling the 'need' to go.

I had something similar around 18 weeks and found that if I sat on the toilet and moved slowly forwards I was able to do somthing, A slow rocking motion until I found a position that let me do a little trickle...

It sounds like you have a tilted uterus - do you know if you do?
I went through this at around the same point. At first it worked if I did what pantstootight suggested - rocking or standing and then putting both hands on floor with bum in air for a bit before going to loo. You are essentially tipping the bladder.
While I don't want to alarm you, one night nothing worked and the nhs phoneline sent me to A&E where, after a painful wait, they gave me a catheter which I had to use for a few days. Then it was removed and I was taught to self-catheter, but have not had to do this since. I feel for you because it's very distressing and painful. The nurses kept offering me paracetamol and I was very clear with them that it was a pain that would be immediately relieved by removing all the urine which was the case.

If you are still struggling this morning, I suggest you get seen straight away - either via GP or EPU, but explain the situation and they will act to get you seen I'm sure.

Thanks everyone, I think that you're right, baby is just moving everything around! I'll just have to do a few stretches or lunges before I try and go!!! ;-)
