Tips for hiding pregnancy

Hi all,

I've just found out that I'm six weeks pregnant and don't want to tell anyone at work just yet. It wouldn't be a problem normally but the time of year makes it tricky! I work in a marketing agency and have got five Christmas dinners/drinks with clients, a works Christmas do and an awards evening in the next four weeks. All would normally be very boozy and work pay for taxis, so I'd struggle to get away with saying I'm driving. Also can't pretend to be on antibiotics for four weeks!

Has anyone got any tips on how to avoid drinking without anyone noticing so that I can get through the next few weeks without being outed?!

And no, nothing to avoid with a curry except prawns really. Your taste may well change and you might not fancy what you usually have but see what you fancy.

Another vote here for not telling. Just take drink and put it down - as long as you're talking and joining in, most people won't notice and if some vigilant type does, you tell them that you've got so many parties you've got to slow it down some days. You can also ask for a non-alcoholic drink some rounds and say you are doing that alternating thing that all the mags recommend at this time of year. The trick is not to over explain!
For the dinner with friends, just be really hungover (something you could well FEEL and look due to early preg symptons) and order a fat coke.

At the weekend I had schlur in a wine glass. Friends and DP fell for it (DP asked why I was drinking). You will though have to order it yourself!

What most others have said - don't explain, and people won't even notice. But if you tell people you're not drinking, as on antibiotics, everybody will suspect you're pregnant.

Prawns are fine - it's raw shellfish the NHS advise you to be wary of X

I managed my wedding reception by toting around a half full glass of wine - too full to need a replacement, but empty enough to look like I was drinking it. And if anyone offers to buy you a drink, just say you've got one somewhere. Mentioning not drinking draws attention to it, chances are nobody would really notice!

If you're getting your own drinks, you can always get the bar staff in on it. I went to an event in a bar a few weeks ago, and because the bar manager is a close friend of my DP who already knew about me being pg, he just made me non-alcoholic Raspberry Mojitos instead of normal ones _
The problems come when people start offering to buy rounds, in which case you may have to either "lose" the drink you're bought or ask for a soft drink and make one of the excuses the other posters have suggested!
