I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

How are we all? I'm damn depressed today. I came off anti depressants at the start of the pregnancy. For the first time today I wish I could take them. Seeing everyone bang on about new years has irritated me. My childless friends are the kind of people who only want to know you when you have a babysitter. They all had a lovely eve together yesterday which I wasn't invited to. Happy fucking new yr. I didn't even see ny in. Awful stomach pains, so I went to bed at 10.

Sorry for this rant. .

elizabethsmum · 01/01/2015 17:50

hi all.....
heres to improvements for all those suffering asap.

newshoes boastful fb posts about what an amazing time people are having are highly annoying at the best of times- I have tried and
failed to steer clear of fb for that reason for a couple of days tbh. if its any consolation I fell asleep on setee while dh was watching top gear and woke up to the screechings of paloma faith on jools holland. at least we are smug in not having hangovers from hell Wink
don't let thoughtless people piss
you off drag you down xx

elizabethsmum · 01/01/2015 17:51

sorry for all the code!! stupid phone!! supposed to be crossings out! you get the picture! ! Hopefully my stupidity will raise a smile anyway!!

LucindaE · 01/01/2015 18:19

Hello, everyone, back. I see Meerka and elizabethsumum have been being wonderfull. I think we have two people on here called Laura. Hugs to both for different nasty problems. NewSjoes sorry about depression but glad you don't feel as bad physically. I am sure there are people who have a less than brilliant New Year celebration who could relate it much more entertainingly than the people who post on social media. You'll be the lucky one next New Year. My OH didn't see the New Year in as he came back pissed from the pub and fell asleep in the chair.
I hope everyone has a much better January than they did December.
I left Ovaltine off last list by accident, am I right in thinking you're

Thanks elizabeths and lucinda. Really must count my blessings & stay off fb! Your posts do look like crossing out' don't fear!

My ds2 is 6 tomorrow. Can't believe the time has gone so quickly.

ovaltine · 02/01/2015 01:56

Yep, lucindae, 4th June is right. Got my first set of proper kicks just after midnightast night too. And in 2 weeks will find out if its pink or blue (I'd bet my right arm it's blue!)

Nye - most overrated night of the year!! I spent it sorting out toys, changing sheets and reading my book. Lovely.

Body clock all out of whack, as is DD (she's 3) - her bedtime is 10pm at the moment but then sleeps in til 10am.

I'm actually (dare I say it) quite excited about this baby. It's such a different pregnancy, I've actually got to enjoy it, get fat, not gone off foods or have that ridiculous sense of smell as I did last time. You girls are so strong to be so ill every day and it makes me wonder how I ever survived the first time. It takes time to recover after too so be kind to yourselves.

There was someone asking about preemptive meds - I cannot stress enough that this is DEFFO the way forward. Once you start puking its too late in my opinion. As soon as you feel even a little bit rough, get on those meds! If you ttc then make sure your diet is full of lots of b vitamins. I deffo think this is something that massively helped me as was taking lots of supplements/protein shakes high in them and then went on the b6 plus antihistamine as soon as I found out then after 2 weeks got the ondanestron.

Big love to all of you feeling rough and miserable. xx

zippys · 02/01/2015 08:06

Hi everyone. I lurked on this thread through my last pregnancy but thought I would actually introduce myself this time round Grin. I am currently between 6/7 weeks pregnant and my HG has kicked in big time. I am currently on metoclopramide (sp!) but can't keep it down. Managed one bit of toast last night but other than that I have been living off ice the last few days. I have a 22month old and run my own business (which is so busy this month) so can't spare the time to go in for fluids so trying so so hard to rehydrate myself Confused.

Hellohellohowareyou · 02/01/2015 12:53

Hello everyone! I've not been on for a while, sickness has started to ease up thankfully but I'm having the most awful migraines. I was due to go back to work Monday but I have been signed off for another 2 weeks. Doc thinks the migraines could be a side affect of the ondansetron that I've been taking so I'm now back on cyclizine.

I have also been having awful constipation which I know is another downfall of ondansetron, now I'm not taking this does anyone know when my ahem bowel movements will go back to normal??

ovaltine · 02/01/2015 13:49

Zippys, welcome! You need to get back to dr an review meds. You might be busy but a day getting fluids now is better than running yourself into the ground then having to spend a week in hospital and constantly playing catch up :) get some vitamin b6 too and maybe some ketostix so you can check how dehydrated you are at home?

Hellohello can you get some lactulose or something from dr? Glycerin suppositories are a god send too! Headache can be from being dehydrated and from being constipated. Even when not pregnant, being constipated makes me sick and feel horrific so I feel for you. It's hard to drink enough water/OJ anyway to try and keep things moving without taking ondanestron.

zippys · 02/01/2015 15:47

Thanks Ovaltine, I know you are right! I have just ordered some Ketostix from amazon and put a call in to the doctors. Haven't tried B6 so will go and get some asap.

LucindaE · 02/01/2015 20:39

zippy Welcome and I'm glad he thread helped last time. I can't improve on Ovaltine's advice. It doesn't look as if those meds are helping much and I so agree you need something else and some kestostix. You've got a lot to do and I can't imagine how you're coping with a toddler and a busness. Ovalitne Great advice to Hellohello too; it's great you find this pregnancy so different from the last. Hellohello You poor thing, I so feel for you over these dreadful migraines. I got them too, and it's so hard to distinguish between migraines and dehydration headaches.
NewShoes Hugs.

I hope everyone is coping today.

Morning ladies

Just wanted to let you know that Baby Fraggle (or Max as he is now lovingly named!) arrived on New Years Day. I was rewarded for my rubbish pregnancy with a super speedy labour which was nice

I really can't thank you all enough for your help over the last 9 months, I hope you all feel better soon. It really does pass and the outcome is worth it all xxx

DurhamRed · 03/01/2015 15:20

Congratulations Fraggle such lovely news...and welcome little Max Smile

LucindaE · 03/01/2015 15:29

Fraggle So happy for you.Grin ThanksThanksThanks. So glad you had a good labour too. For some reason you'd fallen off my list - well, it was apprpopriate, lol. I remember you bravely going in to work on public transport. So glad this thread helped and so nice of you to come on to encourage others.
DurhamRed How are things today? I hope everyone is coping.

DurhamRed · 03/01/2015 16:36

Hi Lucinda I'm not doing too badly thank you. I still have really bad days unfortunately but nowhere near as bad as before. I'm back working full time but only have 7 weeks left before mat leave so not long to go!

Meerka · 03/01/2015 19:14

fraggle lovely news! Welcome to the world max. Lovely you had such a great delivery - god, you deserved it. Hope you recover fast =) Do take it easy, HG really drains you more than you realise.

Welcome back mother Hen sorry I wasn't around as much as I wanted to be. Lovely to be back in the UK for a short time though.

newshoes how are you? There are some anti depressants that -are- safe in preg. I take a half-tablet now and then of an anti-depressant for its sleepy-making properties and the doctor was clear that it was safe to take throughout.

ovaltine nice to hear it's going so well.

hi zippy - how is it going now, did you manage to get more meds?

hello hello (if you see what I mean) ... did you manage to get the constipation shifted? and the migranes lessened?

Newshoesplease · 04/01/2015 00:26

Congratulations fraggle! Beautiful name Max, in fact I want it. Haha!

lucinda I think I had a low day, but felt more myself today, so will try to bumble along unless depression gets worse!

LucindaE · 04/01/2015 13:14

Newshoes That's good; I'm glad to see Meerka's excellent tip.
DurhamRed You are very brave to be back at work if you're still having very bad days.
Meerka Thank you, you and ellizabethsmum were invaluable. I was wondering about Hello's migranes, and am a bit concerned about wavesand all those who were feeling very bad just before Christmas.
Still very happy about fraggle's bundle of joy...

OP posts:
elizabethsmum · 04/01/2015 20:04

fraggle congratulations on your wonderful news. Like you- rubbish as my pregnancies were I had super speedy uncomplicated deliveries so was very lucky that way.

hello I am not an expert by any means in migraines but I know that they can be hormone related and hence I believe sometimes worse in pregnancy, also made worse by dehydration. Have they improved since you went back onto cyclizine? Reminds me- still need to get round to getting my eyes tested!! (Have been having migraine trouble myself lately and not pg!)

meerka glad you had a good break in the UK!

Welcome zippy! Hope you have been able to see Dr

Really interested in what you have said about pre-emptive meds ovaltine - it definitely quickly reaches a point when HG takes hold that it becomes impossible imo to get back without Iv fluids so really so much better if meds have had time to get into the system beforehand- cyclizine in particular is actually good if it manages to get into your system as the effects are cumulative. It did help me a lit in second pg from weeks 15 onwards (once hg was under control) as I think it help avoid any relapses. Someone a while ago was talking about trying pre-emptive cyclizine as she had some left over from prev pg.

Waves to durham, newshoes, lucinda and everyone

wavesandsmiles · 05/01/2015 13:20

Hi everyone, sorry for not being around for a while.

Huge congratulations to fraggle.

I'm really not very well and frankly fed up of the struggle to get fluids in. I get in total about 1.5 hours a day when I can keep fluids down. I am on ondansetron melts and have been for 3 or 4 weeks.

I was on promethazine before I got major symptoms because of what happened last time and now I am just exhausted. I'm just over 10 weeks and kind of want to curl up in bed and just be ill instead of this daily battle to keep out of ketosis. It's so hard, and I am doing my best but I'm tired and feeling so sad about it all. I had to come back to work today and it's awful.

I really don't know what to do. Do I just give in to the HG for a few days, and accept that I will probably need admitting for IV fluids? Part of me thinks that having IV fluids would make me feel so much better and might get me over this hump.

Oh, and if the list is being updated, I'm due 4 August I think...

TallGiraffes · 05/01/2015 13:31

Welcome to the world Max, so glad you had a good delivery Fraggle.

Not much to report from me, lost 20lb now and as I was on the borderline between underweight and normal BMI before all this I look like a skeleton! 14w.

On an entertaining note though DH and DS (2y) we're chatting in the car yesterday. DS piped up with "[dog's name] was sick at Grandma's house, Daddy had to clean it up. [dog's name] has baby in tummy!"

LucindaE · 05/01/2015 13:57

Tallgiraffes and wavesandsmiles Oh dear, you both sound as i f you are suffering badly, and both of you are so slightly built - I know waves is from the lovely photo I saw last time and Tallgiraffes I am horrified- that is a huge weight loss. I just hope it eases soon. Can you eat at all? I remember with kalidasa they gave her some meal replacement vitamin stuff whose name now escapes my memory, curses - she found it horrible b but could someitmes retain it. I hope others have some suggestions, too...
elizabethsmum My goodness, an easy delivery you say, having had twins.
hellohello My horrible migrianes, which as elizabethsmum says, can be difficult to distinguish from dehydration headaches did go at about fourteen weeks, thank goodness. They are purely horrendous. Sorry you are suffering from them again, elizabethsmum, and I hope in your case they're not hormonally related and bound up with the cycle.
zippy How are things?
xx

Newshoesplease · 05/01/2015 22:45

tall your ds sounds so sweet! Are there any milkshakes or high calorie drinks you can keep down at all? I'm clutching at straws I know. .

Newshoesplease · 05/01/2015 22:47

Hugs to waves it's so awful-I liken hg to spending large amounts of time merely trying to not die. I wished I could have a drip at home at my worst.

Meerka · 06/01/2015 09:38

waves how are you now? tbh having a few days giving into the HG now may be the best option. If you struggle on you may get worse and then -have- to take time off and be in a worse position, and take longer to get better. Also, don't underestimate the drain on your stamina for the long term, if you get worse. Trying to keep yourself in as good a condition as possible is wise. So yes, get the rehydration.

tallgiraffes are you get any slightly-better days at all now? Im concerned that you are seriously underweight. What does your doctor say? My Mother in Law used to make super-high-calorie soups and bring them round to be eaten when I could manage them. They were comparatively easy to get down.
