I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

waves and Kalidssa I thought you might have been on together atone time - and two who have suffered most badly on here. Sorry you are both feeling so vile. waves I am so glad you've got practical help, that will make such a huge difference; never heard of Workaway but it sounds great. Kalidasa Congratulations on getting out baby things and so sorry mother is being unkind - that's very hard to take, however mature one thinks one is, when you're ill anyway.
muddy GettheRed dottydadoo NoRoom Jen Newshoes and everyone, I do hope like others that things look up a bit over the festive season, next year will be much better, that's certain.
I hope the wonderful Meerka has a wonderful Christmas, too, though they have the sense to do the present giving on St Nicholas' day in the Netherlands...Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked, off to buy some last minute stuff.
xx

Could even be only three weeks meerka if DS2 arrives a week or so early! Every single morning DH tells me e.g. "only 35 days to go - and maybe only 21 if he arrives at 38 weeks!". It's really beginning to sound like a bearable amount of time now.

Hope the drugs are working better for you today waves. Will you get any time of complete rest over Christmas, if your ex has the children?

basgetti · 24/12/2014 12:24

Thanks everyone for all the congratulations, I think I have the most placid baby in the world, still feeling more healthy and refreshed than I did for most of my pregnancy. We took baby out in the pram on day 3 for a lovely walk and breakfast, felt great. Having a few cosy days at home now.

Only low point has been some feeding issues, baby wouldn't latch so I was going to express but as soon as milk started to come in and I tried I ended up needing cyclizine again. Spent a lot of the day retching and have made the decision not to continue. Feeling relieved selfishly to get my body back, and she is happily guzzling her bottle, gaining weight and her jaundice has nearly gone. Also feeling sad that I had to make the choice between puking and carrying on with the meds, or feeding her how I'd wanted.

Hoping everyone has as good a xmas as possible, not long now Kali! xxx

Meerka · 24/12/2014 12:50

kali I will dance widdershins around the christmas tree asking Lucina to come visit you in 3 weeks' time.

Hmm .... mother hen, is your name not-entirely-coincidendal?

basgetti lovely to hear your little one is so placid. Just the break you need. Sorry to hear about the bfíng but honestly, overall recovering has to take a high priority now and if you were getting the nausea ...

Can I offer a bit of advice? Don't do too much too quickly. Seriously. The HG will have taken much more out of you than you realise.

If you can, stop whatever you're doing just before you get tired. Let husband do some night feeds. Accept help whenever you can, as long as its not from Mrs BossyBoots who stresses you out. It will really pay off in the long run to be as laid back as you can now.

comeagainforbigfudge · 24/12/2014 16:05

Hello. Just popping in to say Merry Christmas everyone!!

I'm feeling a lot better (still need the cyclizine but getting there) so I'm hoping I'll manage my dinner tomorrow. at the very least the roasters with gravy yum!

Thank you to all who give their wonderful advice (and time) so freely. I truly appreciate it. FlowersFlowersFlowers

LucindaE · 24/12/2014 17:10

basgetti Very sensible decision, if you were so sick from trying to breast feed. I can't improve on Meerka's advice. comeagain Hugs. I hope you and everyone can eat a little tomorrow. Kali I so second what Meerka says again - Meerka I think it was a Freudian name choice. Grin
I hope everyone has as good a Christmas as they can. Do as little as you can and don't dare feel guilty. 'This Too Will Pass'. Hugs to all.

Merry Christmas and thank you all for all the great advice & support over last 3 months. It really has been a lifeline through some dark times. Here's to next year being wonderful for all, with our new babies and lack of nausea. Thanks most of all to Lucinda for running this thread. Big hugs xxx

DurhamRed · 24/12/2014 23:03

Thank you everyone for all the support you have given me over the past few months...I don't think I would have coped without your help. A very merry and restfull Christmas to you all!! Xmas Smile

ToAvoidConversation · 25/12/2014 06:53

Merry Christmas everyone. Thanks for supporting me through some really crap times in the summer.

Stupidly fell asleep with my cyclizine in my hand last night so feeling a big dodgy but hope it will pass!

Fraggle31 · 25/12/2014 09:22

Merry Christmas ladies......thank you for all your support over the last 9 months, it's been invaluable! DD in 3 days, hoping bump stays put until at least after turkey lol

Congrats to basgetti and all the other new arrivals.

Hope everyone managed to keep down a little food today xxx

ignominious · 25/12/2014 13:03

Congratulations basgetti. Finally not being pregnant any more is amazing isn't it. Everyone else was saying how hard a new baby was but I felt so much better even on no sleep.

I'm on Metoclopramide at the moment and its losing its effect (or nausea just getting stronger?) and I feel unbearably rough today and for the last week. 11+4. What's the next step up and does it have terrible side effects? It's been pretty good up to now and takes away a lot of food aversions which neither of the antihistamines did.

Meerka · 25/12/2014 13:30

oh wow fraggle, wonder if the Bump sense the exitement =)

Hope everyone has a gentle and endurable and happy overall christmas.

love xx

ignom the next one to try is probably stemetil (prochlorperazine) or straight onto ondansetron. you might have to fight for ondan though. Hope you can get through today.

ToAvoidConversation · 25/12/2014 22:09

I'll echo what Meerka said. That was how I climbed rather swiftly through the drug ranks too.

LucindaE · 26/12/2014 10:13

Hexy DurhamRedToAvoidfraggleand Everyone Thanks for king words, and I so join in wishes for an improvement for everyone in the New Year. As I have monotonously intoned, all will be immeasurably better next Christmas. ignominious Sorry the meto isn't working, and like Meerka I do hope you can get through until your GP is available to get stronger meds.
fraggle Baby so soon is exciting. I'll look for the (now outdated) due dates list. We've got two sets on twins on it, but I hope those women are doing OK as we haven't heard from them in a while...
Hope Everyone survived Christmas, with all its feasting.

Ooh a due date list! I'm also 12th June newshoes

I find it so funny that on dander on is the top line anti-emetic. We give that out like sweets in my work. As an IV certainly. And cyclizine as a last resort (IV again)

Obviously they work in different ways in different situations but still...

Anyway. Managed all my Xmas dinner. Four courses. Helped by the hour between 2nd starter at my folks and main course at DHs folks.

also helped by the bare minimum turkey, roasters and corn on the cob served for Xmas dinner. Hmpf wasn't even any stuffing. Should have stayed at my folks grrrr

comeagainforbigfudge · 26/12/2014 11:47

Ha ha ha dander should be ondansetron.

LucindaE they were all small portions with plenty of time between the courses. Think that helped!

Tbh I was impressed myself. Think I may have turned a corner. Even managed a cup of tea!!! Which is massive for me as not been interested in tea since fell pregnant. And I LOVE tea.

LucindaE · 26/12/2014 19:22

comeagain That does sound hopefu; tea is a thing you so miss, and so impossible to drink when at your worst... I've just done a daft tihing and
got Oklahoma on that incorrect date again, lol, when thank goodness baby has thankfully arrived!

My date is 3rd August.

I was able to eat some dinner yesterday despite being sick, and today has been a washout. I can't keep anything down, I have been throwing up all day, ketones are at +2 and I am very dehydrated. I forsee a trip to hospital very soon.

Thankfully my mum kept DS all day which gave me the chance to rest but I am not well at all.

Meerka · 26/12/2014 23:33

jen, wishing you strength for the coming weeks

LucindaE · 27/12/2014 10:41

Hi ladies it's nice to see a few of you are feeling a bit better and congratulates basgetti. You must be so relieved to have your baby and just be you again.

Can I ask when the ladies who feel better started to feel better? It seems ppl with hyperemesis are sick longer than the usual 12 weeks. I know some have it all the way through but is there a average wen it stops? Xx

Meerka · 28/12/2014 11:54

Yes, it's usually longer than 12 weeks.

There's usually an improvement which can begin between weeks 14-22. Big range, really.

If you can get a drip that often helps too actually. When you are not getting enough liquid into you or (if it goes on long enough) enough food, your electrolyte balances get messed up and that makes you feel ill all by itself. A drip rehydrates you fast and can kick-start the improvement.

For me, I started to feel faintly better around 21 weeks with our first. With the 2nd baby I was in hospital at 14 weeks with IV antibiotics and they shoved rehydration fluid in at the same time. When I got out, the nausea was sooooo much better.

When you start to improve there are good days and bad. It's a gradual thing, not an overnight cure.
