BOTTLE FEEDING

Hi i am due in 3 wees. i am going to bottle feed. Can anyone give me any idea of which formula to use and why????

SMA GOLD gave my DD1 the worst sickness ever

Aptamil First for both my boys. I have been told it is softer than any other formula and hence easier to digest.

Another tip - when you make up the bottles just put in the cooled boiled water and leave it to go to room temperature. Then add in the powder at each feed and give to baby. This way you only need to carry round the water in the bottle and the powder in a dispenser (you can get from mothercare) you do not have to keep the milk cool and heat up when you are wnating to feed. Both mine had room temperature milk and it saved so much time and I could feed anywhere!

dd was on SMA and she was a lousy feeder - I don't know whether that was just her (she's still fussy at 34) or the vile taste of the stuff (I realised too late how horrid it was)

my boys on the other hand had Cow & Gate and loved it.

I don't think any is better or worse than any other - it's just what you put your hand on first in the supermarket. If you think your baby isn't feeding well on one then try another.
I wouldn't waste time with the 'hungry baby' milks that are supposed to get them going longer between feeds.

my vote is for Aptamil. know lots of mums which babies who got diarrhoea/constipation with SMA Gold.

Used Hipp Organic, but not from birth (from 6 months). Had no problems with sickness or constipation.

tiktok or mears always says: buy the one they stock in your nearest 24-hour shop. Because although formulas are all different, there are no studies showing which is best for what. So availability should be the most important criteria.

No problem here with SMA Gold, but she only had top ups so not large quantities. Interested to see how many babes didn't get on with it.

Absolutely agree with Spoo's tip - dd had room temp. milk from the start, and I used to feel so grateful when I saw other Mums heating bottles all the time!

Was told by a midwife that SMA is the one that will make them sicky if they're that way inclined. I used Cow & Gate for mine and had no probs. Aptamil is more expensive and isn't as easily available in corner shops, etc as SMA or C&G.

Agree with Pruni about the hungry baby milks too - waste of time ime.

Also agree with Spoo about the room temp milk - makes life so much easier. Get the baby used to it from day 1 and you'll never have to fuss about heating milk/keeping it cold when you're out.

Mines on SMA gold, his only 2 weeks tho. No problems as yet. i also agree with the room temp thing, i dont really fancy having a fussy child and it makes life so much easier if your out and you are unable to heat the bottle!

Hm...with es I weaned of the breast when he was about 4 month old as he was so sicky....well...he stayed sicky on all the Formulas I tried and I must have gone through the whole range, so, ended up using the cheapest, which was Boots own, at that time!
MS was bf'ed until 10 month, I then used Aptamil, as I liked the idea of them using the Fishoils for braindevellopement (and , lol, probably coincidental, but he is the brainiest out of my 3, lol).
Never needed any Formula with ys, as he was bf'ed till 13month+, lol!

definitely choose the one which you can get your hands on in an emergency - for me it was Aptamil. Don't buy too much in though, just in case you need to change later. The room temp tip is also good, though to meet the current guidelines you're supposed to have the water at 70 degrees before you mix with the powder (not boiling). I don't know anyone who does this though tbh.
