Hiccuping baby

I'm 27 weeks pregnant, and my baby is hiccuping - well what I can only presume to be hiccups - almost everyday. My mum said that I used to hiccup a lot when I was inside her, but is it normal everyday? Is it something I'm eating?

i had this with Jess, and it didnt stop when she came out either!!

I think it was almost daily with her.

(Tip once they are out - a little vinegar on your finger and in their mouth!)

I mentioned this to my MW once with dd1, she said it's a good sign and there's an expression 'hiccup and thrive'! I had never heard that but my mum had. Sorry, not much help! FWIW, dd1 was fine!

Some do (DS did, a lot), some don't (DD didn't but did a lot when she was born).

This one is hiccuping a lot too - I'm also 27 weeks.

Thanks for replying everyone - I like the 'hiccup and thrive' thing!

one of mine hiccuped a lot

dd hiccuped loads..quite cute really but I must admit it did get worrying and was such a bizarre feeling esp when it was so often..!

I was told it's a good sign as it's baby learning the swalling reflex and apparently hiccups are due to them swollowing amniotic fluid by mistake iywkim..Just like when we get hiccups..BTW dd now aged 16 months hiccups lots now..!!

My dd1 did it all the time. Towards the end my tummy jumped about a lot.

Rosylily · 06/10/2006 09:28

All mine hiccuped loads. I find it a weird and funny feeling.

both of mine hicupped a lot, now ds2 hiccups loads on the outside!

poppynic · 06/10/2006 09:33

Someone told me that a hiccuping baby is likely to be a good breastfeeder coz it means they are making the same moves with their mouths. Have no idea if this is true but mine was a big in vitro hiccupper and a super bfer from the very beg - giving me not a hint of sore nipples.

NatalieJane · 06/10/2006 09:36

I am 33 weeks and LO is hiccupping at least twice a day (sometimes more) I can't wait to see if they carry on when he is born! DS, who is now 4 years old, never hiccupped when I was pregnant with him.

wrinklytum · 06/10/2006 09:51

Its so weird isnt it?Got it with dd but not with ds.Strange but true!!

WeaselMum · 06/10/2006 18:35

ds got the hiccups several times a day in utero - in fact I saw him hiccuping on a scan at 15 weeks. He has carried on being very hiccupy. But unfortunately the bf thing wasn't true with him - he made me very sore and was very up and down with latching on when I was breastfeeding him.
