School run after c/s

Hi - I guess this should be in another topic but I'll try here for now!

I need some MN reassurance that I will be able to do the school run two weeks after c/s with baby in sling or pram, (or baby and 3 yr old ds2 in double buggy) around 1 mile mainly up hill. I had em c/s with ds1 which I recovered from quickly but as that was 5 years ago and I have extraordinarily bad memory, am starting to fret that I'm being too ambitious - or too nervous...

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear, but I wore DS in a sling to Tescos 4 weeks after cs and felt like I'd really overdone it afterwards. I raised it with my consultant and she said that 2nd time round it can take longer to heal. Having said that I think I may have recovered slower than some other people.

... meant to say I'd def go for the double buggy at first - should be easier on your stomach muscles if you push uphill with your legs!

Thanks chestnutter - that's exactly what I need to hear! Will practice with both the week before (when dh in charge of the school run and I can be unable assistant) - but will get dh to get double buggy out of loft so I can clean it up before the big (cs) day.

Good plan! Good luck

Good grief! Have a backup plan, please! I remember pushing my 2-wk-old baby in the pram for a short, level distance, and needing to sit down and hand the pram back to dh.

With ds (2nd cs) we got out of hospital 2 weeks afterwards (he was prem) and I could manage stairs. No way could I have pushed a double buggy up a hill for a mile. 6 weeks after, maybe.

i was back driving on the school run 9 days after my last section which was my third, with 4yr old 3yr old and new baby, there is hope everybody is different but good luck

chestnutter · 05/10/2006 17:02

Ha! Now you're none the wiser!! Back up plan necessary I reckon and if you don't need it then so much the better

intergalacticwalrus · 05/10/2006 17:10

Definitely have a back up plan, but I have recovered really well this time round after a CS (4 weeks ago) I am driving and have been going for really long walks everyday. I'd suggest the double buggy is your bwest option though.

nutcracker · 05/10/2006 17:12

It can be done, but allow yourself extra time, so you can walk slower, take your time going up and down kerbs etc.

I recovered much quicker from my 2nd C-section. Think that's often the way, especially if it's an elective. Was driving after 2 weeks, doctor said that was fine. Pushed double buggy after about 2 weeks too so hopefully you'll be ok!
