Maternity pads

Last time I used mothercare ones. I didn't like them because they don't come in their own little wrapper (like Always- so you can roll and wrap them after use). You just have to chuck them away as they are.
Nothing like having to rope off your own bin and empty it twice a day to make you feel even more gross after giving birth.
Had anyone found any better ones?

I think they all come like that (I tried a few brands). I used little white sandwich bags (kept for this purpose only) for disposing of them - roll up pad like normal, put in bag, tie and bin. Nappy sacks would work too.

I think the Boots ones come individually wrapped from what I remember, but I also remember that the sticky strip was only one line on the back of the pad so I was worried it would come unstuck. I don't think they ever did but I remember being concerned about it.

Boots have some individually wrapped ones.
I used them last pregnancy and had no problems.

I've just used the always night time pads.

How about getting some nappy sacks to pop them in once used?

Another vote for always night time pads (rather than maternity ones). I had quite heavy bleeding and for quiet a few weeks and no leaks with these ones. The wings are a bit of a godsend! Used them day and night.

Maxi Kotex are super absorbent and ever so soft. I always use those for first couple of days and then go onto the Always Night-time ones (thick ones, not the thin ones) and I use nappy sacks to dispose of.

Standard sanitary pads (ie not maternity pads) aren't recommended as they absorb so much that you can't easily monitor blood loss. They also have plastic in which increases the chance of infection :(

I wish they had wings too :)

Will be buying some always nighttime pads as well used last time after first few days of maternity pads.

I was told not to use the 'Always Night Time' Pads by the consultant after having an episiotomy as the freshness strip can degrade stitches.

That's interesting about not using standard ones I don't remember reading that. I had a section so I suppose stitches degrading not an issue but still. Will be going for a specialist pad this time around!

I used some thin, individually wrapped ones with wings but absolutely cannot remember where from. It would have been either Mothercare, Boots or Sainsbury's.

i used Tena nighttime (or supermarket equivalent - wrapped) for first week or so. really soft and thick. then mothercare maty pads with wings although they aren't wrapped. as pp's say, nappy sacks!

We're also told to not use synthetic pads (like Always) after giving birth (section or vaginally) due to increased risk of infection. I used Kotex and bought special dark blue bags to wrap them in (and changed the bin every day!). Bleurgh, I've got all this to look forward to again in a couple of months. Roll on being able to use tampons again.,.

GP, midwife & NCT leader all advised me against using these types of sanpro as the material allows them to stick to stitches. They all told me to use maternity pads as the material is different & can monitor blood loss as well as not cause new issues.

Also did some of you who preferred sanitary towels have sections? Found the padding of maternity pads a big help for first week. Everything was a little tender initially so cushioning was very useful!!
