37 weeks and extreme rib pain

Before I post, I'm aware that rib pain is a common part of pregnancy but I'm worried, and need a little bit of reassurance.

I'm 37+5 and for the past week I've been having some pretty uncomfortable rib pain on my right hand side, just under my ribcage. In the last couple of days, it's become a lot more uncomfortable and even bending over when sitting to reach something/tie my shoes/wipe myself on the loo is painful. I've also developed a tender spot of skin at the top of my bump near the same area. My back has also started hurting in the same place today.
My baby is 4/5 engaged, so the 'it'll go away when she drops' doesn't really help me here.. I do have a short torso ( I'm 5'2) and I can feel her feet on my right hand side much lower down. Is it literally just her bum/top of her legs wedged into my ribs and hurting me?

Same here - the ribs actually flare out - it'll be alleviated pretty soon!

Make DH pick stuff up / do your shoes. Bouncing on my gym ball is comfier than the sofa too.

I don't want to worry you op, but bad pain under the ribs/top of bump can be a sign of pre-eclampsia, I'd maybe get checked out just to be on the safe side! It's probably just a little bottom stuck in one place causing the ache, I also have one! But didn't want to not say anything just incase.. Hope it eases soon!

Not a doctor, but when I had severe pain in that location a few months back they checked for gallstones. I had assumed it was a pregnancy thing & it was, but might be no harm to check it out? Think we sometimes all make assumptions that everything is pregnancy related but worth double checking with a gp.

Another vote for get yourself checked out. I had this with DS and they ran bloods for liver values and checked blood pressure and for urine protein, and put me on a monitor for an hour. There is a form of pre-eclampsia called Hellp syndrome where the liver swells and causes upper right abdo pain. In my case it was just little feet pummelling my liver, liver enzymes were elevated but BP fine, but better to be safe.

Well, I agree you should probably get yourself checked out to be on the safe side, but I had this pain in the last few weeks of my pregnancy and turned out to be just the baby's feet stuck under my ribs! Try lying down and gently massaging downwards to coax his feet out Smile

It sounds like rib flare - I've had this since about 16 weeks. Started off as tingling/numbness under my right boob. Then started to get pain which spread round to my back, then it just became super sensitive - as if the skin was burnt.

I did got to physio and got some exercises that help. I'm 35 weeks now and although I still get it now and again it's much less often and more managable.

Make sure you're not wearing a wired bra (some days I couldn't wear a bra at all). Mention to the mw and see what she says - mine just told me it was one of those things that can happen in pregnancy and since my bloods/urine/bp have always been fine I've never questioned it any further.
