Hi all,

I had a scan today at 28 weeks, ironically coz they were worried about me having a small baby. Turns out he or she is a bit of a whopper so now they are rushing me for a test for gestational diabetes!

Anyone else had similar? I.m a bit shocked- I've always been small, never overweight or anything and I guess I wasn't expecting this.

If it turns out positive, what am I in for and how worried should I be?

Hi. No experience yet but have my gtt this week because I am measuring 3 weeks ahead. I have never been overweight either. I am a bit concerned as well. GD can be diet controlled and you get extra monitoring so I am trying not to panic yet.

I've had this test for both pregnancies as they are standard on France. The test itself is no big deal (unless you are suffering from HG which I was!). You turn up first thing on an empty stomach, they take some blood, you drink a very sugary orangey drink, wait two hours and have a blood test again.

My tests were negative but my impression is that gestational diabetes is well controlled with diet and exercise and if necessary medication. It is only really harmful if left urn diagnosed.

I had this recently! I'm 31 weeks now but at 26 weeks I was measuring 31 so I had the test. I was really worried but everything was fine and he's evened out a bit more now although he's still bigger than average!
The drink wasn't too pleasant (neither was being hungry!) but it's not for long Smile

Good luck and try not to worry!
