Constant heartburn with physical vomiting

30+2 PG with DC#2 and really suffering with heartburn and nausea to the point where now if I bend over after a meal I physically vomit. I am struggling to sleep as the reflux is so bad, waking up several times with my throat burning. That coupled with the lack of food from vomiting is making me exhausted.

I had heartburn in my first PG but Tums kept it at bay. I am fully aware if all the things that could help (milk, eating little and often, sleeping propped up, Gaviscon etc) but nothing is touching it.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this? Tempted to go to my GP but honestly can't see what they would suggest. DS was born at 38 weeks and the thought of another at least 8, if not 12 weeks of this makes me want to weep :(

I'm sure it's worth the visit to GP. There is Ranitidine which could help? (not had it myself but have seen it referenced on these pages). I have some heartburn and thrown up a couple of times but it must be miserable to have it constantly.

I had the same thing, nothing helped and I was getting hardly any sleep it made me miserable. My GP prescribed me Zantac (ranitidine) and it worked instantly, such a relief! He did say it isn't licensed for pregnancy so although you can buy it over the counter a pharmacist won't sell you it if you're pregnant, but that it isn't known to have any negative effects. For me the lack of sleep was making me feel so ill I was happy to take it. I just wish I'd spoken to my doctor sooner!

Omeprazole, prescribed by GP, worked immediately for me.

Ranitidine has worked well for me

thank god I stumbled upon this I have been awake for a couple of nights now I have major acid reflux and im sick when I lie down I cant even lie down in the bath, and bending over makes me feel sick also. I have to sleep sat up which is crippling me I feel absolutely rubbish today !! have to take a trip to the doctors next week !

DrBlondie · 26/10/2014 22:13

Another vote for Ranitidine. It's a proton pump inhibitor which means it reduces the acidity in your stomach. I take 150mg every 12 hours (I'm 36 weeks). You'd have to break all my fingers to get it off me! It's considered perfectly safe to take during pregnancy. Hope you feel better soon.

They prescribed me Ranitidine and also an anti-emetic. It has helped but I'm still needing a swig of gavescon before bed.

Sleepyhoglet · 27/10/2014 16:57

I'm the same. I have gaviscon and ranitidine (12 tablets for £1 in pound land) but it barely does anything. I try to avoid meat as projectile vomiting that in the night is beyond unpleasant.
