Next week is my 36 week consultant appointment. I have seen senior midwives etc a few weeks ago as i requested a section- after discussing it she reluctantly agreed and booked me this 36 week appointment
Does anyone know what will happen? Will my c-section get booked there and then or will I have to wait for a letter etc?

Also i was wondering if your allowed to pick a date, im due on a sunday and the midwife said they like to do them as close to 39 weeks. So would they do it on the monday at 39+1? Im really hoping for the Friday where I would be 38+5 - baby is measuring a good size (6lb 1 at 34 week scan) so i dont think there would be any major problems ?

They never really do them before 39 weeks unless there's a medical reason ( preeclampsia/GD/etc) - if your dates are out and baby is really 40 weeks at 42 weeks, it could cause complications and growth scan weights are rarely accurate. I'd be thinking around the 39/40 week mark :) Well done on getting your section though!

They don't do them before 39weeks (unless another medical reason makes it necessary or you go into labour early) because the baby is more likely to experience breathing problems. Its NICE guidance.

Oh and Monday is a good day as staffing levels are higher during the week, so you'll get more support on postnatal ward.

I had my cs on a Friday because that was my consultant's surgery day.

Mine was bang on 39 weeks

Gudgyx · 24/10/2014 11:03

I'm having mine at 39+2 because I am due on a Saturday, and they wont do it before 39 weeks.

I found that out at my 16w mw appointment. I have to have a section though for medical reasons, dont know if maybe you're having a section by choice they might delay the booking in case you change your mind?

I had my second via c section after complication with my first born, they took her out at 39+2 wk. I was given a few weeks notice of my date, however I was warned that if lots of emergency c sections came in that morning, I may have to come back the next day, thankfully I was fitted in and it was a smooth experience, mine are 9 and 6 now, time flies!

They won't do it before 39 weeks. I'm 39 weeks on a Sunday too so I'm thinking they'll do it on 39+1. You'll get the date at your 36 week appointment as they book you in for it there and then. Exciting!

mummytoad1 · 24/10/2014 16:45

I was 38 weeks 1 day elective as previous emergency c sec due to non dilation.
There were no medical reasons to have it at 38 weeks my Dr gave me a list of dates and asked me to pick one. I think every hospital is different hun but I'm sure you'll get a date or atleast put on a list and letter asap.after. If there's a date you really don't want I'm sure they will sort that x

I was 39 weeks. I got a choice of the Thursday or Friday. Went for the Thursday as that worked better with dc1's childcare.

It's a bit weird picking your child's birthday for them.
