Which prenatal appointments should DP attend?

I know that obviously 12 week and 20 week scans are a must, but what about other appointments? Is it usual for DPs to attend the booking appointment?

As many as they can I suppose my DP came to the booking appointment

Mine only came to the scans, I checked with MIL about any problems from their side of the family for the booking in appt as I knew DP wouldn't know!

I think it's 50/50 - depends how easy it is for them to get time off, really. I don't think any of the appts bar the scans are worth having hassle for them getting time off.

Mine just came to the scans plus the 36 week homebirth visit. It just never seemed that interesting really - just blood pressure and wee testing! I think I'll ask him to be at my 41 week (looking likely :( ) to hear about induction options and things.

Thank you!! My partner works from home so his time off is flexible so I think he will come to as many as possible! I just wasn't sure about whether the booking appointment was worth his time if it's just weighing me and health questions etc.

Also, my GP website states that the booking appointment is at 12 weeks. Is that cutting it too close to book the 12 week scan in time? We're getting married on what I think is the start of week 12 and going away for a week so I was really hoping they could fit me in before then so we're not worrying whilst we're away!

I think they are pretty dull. DH came to the scans and one that happened to be on a Sunday when I was stupidly overdue, but that was it.

booking can be between week 10 and week 14, they try to do first scan @ 12 weeks ish but again its not imperative it happens on the dot, apart from -iircc - nuchal screening needs to be in a particular window

My husband came to the scans but the rest would be a total yawn for him. I found them dull enough on my own. I realise its it about being entertained but they are no more needed there than any other docs appointment. They just check blood pressure etc. if there was a problem I can understand why asking them to come to subsequent appointments might be useful

DH was there as great company for me! He works from home so can work in the evening if needed!

Mine came to the booking appt and he'll come to the scans, but as for anything else, I'm not sure. It's really awkward for him to get time off work for it, so for routine appts it's maybe not worth it.

First time DH came to booking in because it was a Saturday and I thought it may be useful for him to help with his family medical history. Second time booking appointment was directly before scan so he came to that one too. Apart from that he's never done midwife appointments. He has come to all scans and consultant appointments though.

I think the booking appointment isn't essential (for him) unless there's a complicated family history on his side, or you feel you'd like the support. No harm in him going though...

I believe the nuchal fold translucency scan needs to be done between 12w and 13w6d or 14w depending on where you read the advice.

I went to the breadknife's booking appointment today at 12w4d, and they've got her in for a scan at 13w4d. I did phone the scan department last week to check how busy they were and whether we'd be able to get in in time if we didn't book until today. Your mileage will vary depending on your maternity unit.
