Does morning sickness always mean that good things are going on?

Am about 6/7 weeks pregnant. Had some light spotting and cramping about a week ago when 5.5 weeks pregnant. Gynae did a scan and said that he could see the sac but no heartbeat (very normal at this stage).

I have the most horrific morning sickness - all day sickness actually. I am quite pragmatic about the fact that the pregnancy may not continue, but I can't bear the thought of having to go through this sickness for nothing.

From what I read being nauseous is a fairly reliable indicator that the hormones are doing what they should be doing - am I right?

Off to barf now.

well, the MW always said to me that it a good sign.

But apart from that....Bloody hell!!

Dejags, congratulations, fantastic news
A very well travelled family you'll all be

I hope it it's all plain sailing for the next rest of the PG.

Yes, from all I have read sickness shows hormone levels are high - although many women don't suffer at all from nausea and it is also absolutely fine. Re cramping and spotting - had this in my last pregnancy and have a lovely DS - it is not always a problem so try not to worry. big hug.

Thanks LTH.

We are pretty pleased - always wanted a third and this is good a timing as any.

Just a bit hesitant about getting too attached to this little one before we have had another scan to confirm viability.

Will keep you posted - how are you doing, when are you due?

I'm due early January so it feels like I've got years and years to go. If you saw the size of me you'd think I was ready to go now... it's shocking really.

Just caught up with your blog, I saw the other day that some of the enters were missing so I'm glad you've been able to re-cap. I can't believe you've got less than a month left of your trip, so it must be even worse for you and all you boys( Dh included).
Have you thought about where you'd want to settle after? Or will you stay in SA?

back to your PG news, I had stopping at 5ish weeks with ds3 (then again at about 10), Docs said it was implantation. Scan didn't show any heartbeat until about 7 weeks either. I hope it's all good news
I'm really pleased for you.

(Isn't MN great?, we've never met, never likely to meet, live 1000's of miles apart but I'm really grinning like a cheshire cat at knowing you're having another baby)

There is some evidence that if you have sickness you are less likely to miscarry. think i got that off obgynnet?

i had to have a scan at 5/6 wks both times for different, weird reasons, and neither time was there a heat beat. now one of them is sitting on my lap telling me I "stink of wee" the other is snoring in bed after a hard night...

Big congratulations, btw

If the symptoms are continuing, that's a good sign imho.

I had a mc a few months ago and the first I knew of it was that I'd stopped feeling sick, wasn't hungry all the time, and wasn't feeling so tired.

dejags · 02/10/2006 10:33

That's a really nice thing to say LTH.

People aren't as congratulatory when it's your third child (as I am sure you know). Nice to know somebody out there is excited for us.

Also dejags (btw HUGE congrats)
I had severe ms with dd and she is the most delightful child ever, so not only can it mean a strong pregnancy - I think it also means an angelic child
Fingers crossed for you xx

Dejags I have had terrible morning sickness (well, hyperemesisis) every pregnancy that has resulted in me being in hospital on a drip, and every time I have been told that it is my bodies reaction to the higher levels of hormones, and that it is a 'good' pregnancy.

If you think the reaction to 3 is bad, wait til you're on 4!!
