Hi all
Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong place but I am hoping someone can please help me.

I am about 30 weeks pregnant 1st time mum to be. I have had a relatively smooth pregnancy but on Friday I suddenly felt nauseaus and had some acid reflux, over the weekend my stomach has been a little loose (sorry for TMI!) but nothing too bad and I figured it was just final Trimester normal stuff. However, last night I noticed my lower back was sore and when I went to the toilet it felt like it was burning/stinging when weeing and my bladder hurt afterwards (sorry again for TMI!). This got a lot worse when I went to bed and I was up all night urinating and in pain, when I stood up to go to the loo my lower back was really sore and almost felt a bit weak like I couldn't walk properly. I usually get up about once a night to go to the loo but last night it was about 10 times,

I went to the doctors this morning assuming it was a water Infection but the doctor said the result came back clear on the dip stick test. She checked my blood pressure and temperature again which were normal. For the rest of the day I have needed to urinate a lot more again although it may be because I have been trying to drink a lot more water to keep hydrated. The stinging/pain seemed to decrease a bit as the day went on so I was beginning to think I had just been a hypochondriac, however about half an hour ago I lay down for only about 15 minutes and the minute I tried to get up again The sore back and bladder pain came straight back and I have needed to use the loo about 3 times already since despite not having a drink since.

The doctor was a bit useless and couldn't really suggest the cause to me other then perhaps the baby has dropped and is just lying on my bladder but that doesn't seem to explain the pain and why it is so much worse after lying and is in my back as well as my bladder.

Has anyone experienced this or can anyone shed any light? If there is no obvious water infection I don't know why it hurts so much, and why it has suddenly changed last night. I can't feel any other obvious changes and I haven't been doing anything differently that could have brought this on. It is definitely pain rather then just aching muscles as if baby is lying on something

I just don't know if I should be concerned or not

Thanks so much I advance for any advice anyone can offer me

C x

I can't shed any light on this, but if I was that stage & feeling as uncomfortable as you sound I'd call maternity triage. It's probably best to get checked out by someone who's used to dealing with pregnant ladies. Gp's are great, but they're expected to know lots about lots, better off with a specialist methinks.

One thought - when I had a uti in early pregnancy my dipstick test was negative but a test that was sent away for analysis was positive for ecoli and i needed antibiotics to clear it up.
It just really sounds like some sort of urine infection doesn't it? I'd go with Jaffakake's suggestion and contact your maternity unit and try to get checked out with them AND push them on whether the dipstick checks all possibilities. If it isn't that, hopefully they will get on to finding out what it is. Don't put up with being uncomfortable, speak to someone today.
Best wishes.

Agree with june, call your MW or Mat assessment, and ideally get them to send off a red-top urine sample for culture - the dipstick isn't very specific for bugs, it tests for nitrites and leukocytes (which indicate infection and inflammation respectively), but a culture test will tell them in a couple of days what is happening.
Back pain is unfortunately common in 3rd tri, it may just be a coincidence, but definitely worth getting it checked out.

Thank you all for the replies and suggestions. It is much the same today as yesterday but isn't progressing so I have booked in my midwife for Thursday who will check me over (unless anything gets worse between now and then) so hopefully she will be able to advise more if it's just position of baby or If I should be concerned

Thanks again :-)
