When do I start to use the TENS machine?

Hi everyone,

At what point is it best to start using the TENS machine? I have read it takes an hour to take effect. In the instructions it says to put it on and start using it once you have started to dilate but i have also read else where to start using it as soon as you feel your first contraction?! all very confusing!

Does it do any harm/waste time etc if you use it too soon? plus i don't see the point of zapping yourself with it until you really really need the pain relief?

Any ideas?

well you may not know when you have started to dilate..I thought you started to use it as soon as your contractions started...If you labour starts naturally you will have a build up.

I used it with dd and don't remember it being thats effected but thats not stopped me ordering another one for the birth of ds2b in jan..!! Don't want to take the risk..!!

I used to hire these out when I worked for Boots. It takes 45 mins for the endorphins to kick in so keep it on for a least that long if you are thinking of taking a bath or shower. Put it on as soon as contractions start and make sure it is in the right place. One lot of pads at the top of your bottom and the other about 2 fingers width below your bra strap. Make sure you don't flip the dial round as you will not like it!! Good look. Hit the boost button when the contraction starts.
