After 3 and a half years (thats how old ds is) of being certain i didn't want another child, for a variety of different reasons im broody and excited to begin Ttc!i found pregnancy an anxious time (as im sure everybody did) and was wondering if anyone had a check up just to check everything is ok? Going to start ttc in jan time so the baby will hopefully be born just after ds starts school so i have a bit of rest time before he/she arrives. Im 26 and my last pregnancy was pretty straight forward its just the anxiety!

Tia!

I didn't find it necessary at all, especially for second baby. Do you have any particular health concerns? It seems like it would be a bit of a wasted doctors appointment otherwise, they will just tell you to start taking folic acid and try to eat healthily etc. Hopefully pregnancy will be a less anxious time for you second time round as you know what to expect. Good luck with ttc!

What 's it that you want checked?

WipsGlitter · 17/10/2014 11:38

No. I did read about someone on here who went looking for advice and their doctor was Confused

You could get a hormone level thing done where they test on day 1 and day 21.

However, you might be better trying to dealt with your anxiety issues, if you feel they are at the root of this.

I read in several places that you should get a check up before TTC but don't know why. Maybe it's so they can tell you to lose weight first?

Hi OP. I didn't have a check-up per se but I did mention that we were ttc when I saw my GP about something else. She gave me some advice like cutting down on alcohol, taking folic acid etc. I also had a smear test but was due one anyway.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 17/10/2014 16:50

No, unless you have a health problem you're particularly worried about. They wouldn't tell you anything other than to eat healthily and take folic acid.

if you not had a smear that is up to date worth booking one with the nurse ( every 3yrs I think) other than that unless you are ill Gp's do not normally do anything. If you happen to have an illness and see a dr for that you could mention you hope to ttc but I imagine it is unlikely they will do an internal or any other checks as ttc is not an illness. If you have any illnesses that pregnancy will impact upon or are taking medications that are not seen as safe in pregnancy worth having a chat to swop medications to more suitable products etc.

Good luck.
