confused....early scans?

So im majorly confused about my early scans, I do know due to past experience that they can be out on dating as they was with my ds3. However.... I had a private internal scan when after finding out I was dated around 5+3 bang on for LMP. Yesterday 4+1 weeks since having my private scan (making me 9+4 yesterday) I got a last minute call from NHS hospital for a scan (15 mins before) cause id had pain and spotting. I didnt even get to drink any. Water seen as I didnt have time and my womb is already tilted (backwards) when I got there they scanned me and the baby was fine, she quickly measured along it and I mean quickly and it come out at 8+4. Im confused the 2 dates dont match, I dont know which one to go with now or to worry if its not growing right. Or if its just because external arnt very accurate on me at this stage given iv got a tilted womb and my bladder was empty?

Has anyone else had anything like this?

I wouldn't worry, they grow at different rates at this stage. Couldn't see my bean on my early scan but my 12w scan was perfectly on time. They will use 12w scan for edd & rarely change it.

Don't worry too much, your baby's still tiny x

She did say they would not even write that measurment down as at that stage its not accurate seen as id not even got a full bladder but its just. Really on my mind, my 12wk scan is 2wk on tuesday and now im worrying that I wont be far enough for the nuchal screening etc...but I really should be far enough x

I had a scan around 6 weeks, where the detected a heartbeat but baby was barely measuring 5 weeks. I was referred for a follow up 2 weeks later where I was still measuring behind at 7 weeks when I was 8 weeks +. Scan just showed the sac with a 'blob' inside.

At my 12 week scan. Baby had quadrupled in size and I they put me me 3-4 days ahead of my original EDD.

I agree with Bella. It's not worth taking note of any measurements until your 12 week scan. All babies are different and so much can change in that time.

I'm now 36 weeks with a larger than average (76th percentile) baby despite all the initial growth concerns. Try not to worry and relax until your 12 week scan.

I know its really daft given that its happened to me before, but I was slightly earlier then. I did think I should be slightly ahead. Its good to hear your experience workfree. Thankyou ladies x

My measurements never matched up with my dates in early pregnant, and this little one is an IVF baby so we definitely know how old he is to the hour. The nurse explained that when baby is so small they are really measuring from one fuzzy line to another fuzzy line and it isn't an exact science. In fact at our 20+4 scan baby was measuring around a week ahead. Due to the IVF they won't change his EDD but we've been told that if he continues it would be wise to prepare for an 'early' birth.

At my 6 week scan baby was measuring 5+3 and at my 8 week he jumped up to 8+6. Just like us rates of growth are different for each baby each day as long as they are within 'range' they're fine. Smile

At 5 weeks its extremely inaccurate and at 8-9 it can still be fairly inaccurate. I'm sure everything is fine and dates will in all likelihood change again at 12week scan, when dating is most accurate.

Oh and when I had an NHS scan at what was supposed to be 7weeks but turned out to be "around 6", that's all they said " around 6" as dating an more definitely than that would be too inaccurate at that gestation.

Thankyou everyone ive given over having a big worry session now lol. I think I just wanted to hear other people say its happened to them and they got put back forward in the end, im something of a worrier. This baby is my 4th so deep down I know that by time 12wk scan comes around I will probably gain a few days back. Thankyou for the reassurance :)

A tilted uterus can make it really difficult to measure the baby when its small and I've heard of it giving differences of weeks.

Thankyou littlemissy :)
