20 weeks wrap around back pain

Im nearly 20 weeks and recently I have been getting really uncomfortable back pain in the upper middle right hand side of my back and sometimes it extends round to my right hand side ribs. My doctor thinks it is a result of the hormone relaxin. Has anyone else experienced this? If so what did you think it was and what did you do to try and ease the pain? It is making me miserable....

I really suffered with aches and pains from around 18-24 weeks on and off although mine was a little lower down. I got a physio referral and she said it was ligaments stretching, round ligament pain I think she called it. It all wore off eventually, I'm 31 weeks now and no pain at all. I am uncomfortable at night and find putting a pillow between my legs really helps. Ask your GP or midwife to refer you to physio, they are the experts.

I had exactly this and I'm afraid it lasted right up until I gave birth, after which it went away immediately! I thought it was due to pressure on nerves caused by bump. I found any seating position where your hips are tilted down helped as it allows more room in abdomen so there is less upwards pressure - I used one of those kneeling stools at work which helped. Also using a lower back lumbar support but raising it higher so it pushes against the painful area, and massaging the area with my knuckles.

Towards the end of the pregnancy I found any kind sitting down really very uncomfortable because of this, sorry!

I've been getting the exact same pain in the same place, it's hard to describe. It's a horrible dull ache that goes in deep, I find it helps if I sit with my back really straight for a bit, and also noticed that it comes on mostly in late afternoon. I had it in my last pregnancy all the way through. Docs n MW's aren't very helpful not much they can do tbh. We just have to grin n bear it. :(

Plate I will have a go at raising my lumbar support. I have one of those rolls. I also have a coccyx pillow as that is also in absolute agony! I am like an invalid at work, hobbling round, I have my special chair, my special pillow and my special lumbar support!

Jodie Yes! In the afternoon! I was nearly crying plating up dinner last night. When I sit on the floor with my back against the sofa it improves. I also get it whether or not I have been sitting. Yesterday I took the day off work and I was doing housework and it just got progressively worse all day. Coupled with my coccyx pain I have been pretty miserable.

Anyway, thanks for thje advice! I have been referred to the physio. SO that will hopefully help also.
