I'm 29 weeks pregnant with second dc. My ds is 2 years old and I work 4 days a week with quite a commute. I'm completely exhausted and have SPD. Just seen my midwife who suggested working up to 37 weeks as I planned to do is a bit too late. Just wondered what others are planning to do?

I planned to work til 37 weeks (using three weeks of AL to take me to the due date).

Due to PgP and threatened pre term labour etc I was signed off at 32 weeks. Have loved being off!!

I'd planned to work till around 37 weeks but found i was so tired and stressed I'm finishing at 34 1/2 weeks. I'd like it to be a bit earlier but think I can just about hang on!

I'm a part time teacher, DD nearly 3, planned to go to 38 weeks, made it to 35, too many aches and pains!

Dizzylizzie29 · 16/10/2014 19:56

Currently on week 35 aiming for 39 weeks, Want the time off after! Also can go to the toilet in peace at work!

Chipandspuds · 16/10/2014 20:10

I'm 33 weeks with DC2, DS is 3 in December. I'm working up to 36 weeks, then having 3 weeks annual leave before starting maternity leave at 39 weeks.

After the day I've had today at work I would quite happily not go back in next week! I'm not sure if the stress is worth it..

HappyAsASandboy · 16/10/2014 20:14

I am planning to work up to 37 weeks, then take three weeks leave up to due date; but as I have a 2 hour each way commute I have arranged to work 1 day per week from home and am also taking 1 day per week annual leave from now on (33 weeks), so only have to commute 3 days per week.

TBH the commute (car, train, tube, bus) is getting to be very difficult now (33 weeks) as I have SPD that leaves me hobbling by the end of the day. But I really would like to make it to 37 weeks as that means dates work nicely at the other end of maternity leave.

Ultimately you have to finish whenever your body tells you to stop (or sooner if that's the way you're leaning). But it is much easier to plan to leave late and then bring the date forward than it is to plan to leave early and then suddenly want to tell work you want to stay another three weeks! Plus, if I was at home for weeks on end before due date I wouldn't be able to justify nursery fees for the older two DC, so home would be harder than work Wink

Thanks for all the replies. Have a cold at the moment as well so that's probably not helping my perspective. And also work is incredibly stressful. I'll see how it goes over the next couple of weeks and bring it forward a week if needed. Good luck everyone!

I am 34 weeks with DC2, DC1 is 2. I commute to London and work full time. I am working to 37 weeks, but am doing one day a week from home, ideally Weds as it breaks up the week.

happypotamus · 16/10/2014 20:43

I worked until half-way through 35 weeks, doing 13hr shifts (except the last week was rubbish so the 13hr shifts finished a hour late with about 20mins break) on my feet in a physically and emotionally demanding job. I also have a 3yr old to keep me busy on my days off. I'm not entirely sure how I survived. I am now 37 weeks and taking annual leave until my due date when maternity leave will start (or earlier if baby is born earlier).

CherryLips1980 · 16/10/2014 20:48

I am planning (ha!!) to work up to 39 weeks like I did with DD - but I say that at 13 weeks pg with an easy pregnancy so far. I only work two days a week though, and a 10 minute car journey from home, so I hope it's possible.

Noyoucantwatchpeppapig · 16/10/2014 20:59

Currently 26 weeks, planning on working till 36 weeks as it coincides nicely with Christmas. I only work 3 days a week on my contracted hours. I've just dropped my extra day (now that the maternity pay qualifying period has finished). Feeling tired at the moment.

I'm going for 34, but only because that takes me to Christmas and I fancy Christmas at home. Also I'm having a CS, so I know I won't be getting to 40 weeks (38 or 39). So it won't actually be that long at home without DH or DD.

HulaHoopsInTheBath · 16/10/2014 22:24

Finishing at 36 weeks here, DD1 was late and I ended up with nearly 7 weeks off before she arrived and got so bored. Due New Year though so like other PPs am linking it in quite nicely with Christmas.

With firstbone i planned to work to 37 weeks, had threatened labour at 34 weeks so was off from then. Delivered 37+1. This time was thinking probably 36 weeks in case of another early one!

RumAppleGinger · 17/10/2014 19:02

Currently 35 weeks with DC2, working to 37 weeks. Had a rubbish pregnancy with constant sickness throughout and now totally exhausted. Wish I'd arranged to start my leave earlier but as other team members are taking annual leave for the next two weeks I don't really feel like I can ask to finish earlier (notwithstanding serious medical complaints) just because I'm tired and grumpy!

Bugaboom · 17/10/2014 20:19

I have so much on at work and there's unlikely to be a replacement for a while, that I can't decide whether finishing a week earlier at 36 is just going to stress me out more! Going to make my mind up end of the week. Although the thought of my commute to London in the dark might sway me to an early finish!

Have some pretty important exams to run (I'm a teacher) at the end of Jan so I feel quite a lot of pressure, from myself as much as my school, to work until 38 weeks. DH and family in general are pushing for me to finish at Christmas when I'd be 34 weeks. Really, I don't know what I'd do with myself for 6 (possibly 8 weeks) at home without the baby, especially as DS will still be in childcare. Also, I'd really rather have more time after the baby is born and I really do have to go back to work at least a couple of days a week when new baby is 9 months.

Managed until 38/39 with DS and so I'm hopeful!
