Is anemia automatically checked for?

Been feeling awful for about a week, tired, sick and shakey. I am 30 weeks preggers and have had blood taken regularly, it seems to be the thing in Spain. I also have been taking iron tablets, which again is standard practice here. Just wondering if this sounds like anemia or is it just my bloody blood pressure tablets causing trouble again .

My bp is fine,, sometimes a bit lower than normal but I don't know what counts as low, it seems to fluctuate. Sorry I think I'm turning into a hypochondriac This is baby number 2, so you would think that I would know better

ANEMIA was always cheched with all my pregnancys

they usually do a full blood count every time they take blood, however if your worried ask for an fbc to be done

In UK anaemia is checked at least twice in the third trimester - at about 28 and 36w. If you're worried, ask for a full blood count. IME some women (me) cannot tolerate even the least degree of anaemia, but my symptoms are fatigue and nausea. I don't associate shakiness with anaemia, though I do with low BP. Definitely worth getting your BP medication checked out asap.

Thanks all, I've got an appointment on Monday so hopefully I will be able to get it sorted.

Well it's not anemia, it's my bp tablets making my blood pressure low and low blood sugar. I have been advised to drink coke, unfortunately not with a large vodka

Coke? But that's got caffeine - so go easy on it. Will any other sweet drink do instead, or must it be Coke?

lucy5 · 02/10/2006 22:49

I must admit I was shocked when they recomended coke. I'll double check if another drink will do.

You can drink up to 8 cans of coke a day, can't you, before it even starts to have any ill effects? Surely if it's low blood sugar any old full fat fizzy drink would do? Or Mars Bars, or cake, or ice cream, or wine gums? (It'll be nice testing this theory out!!)

Sorry you're having such a rough time of it, btw, at least we haven't got long to go now really - it's the home straight!!

Thanks Olihan, not long now, thank god. I haven't been able to access the December thread today. Will come on for a good moan in the morning
