Hello All

I've been torn over this for a week now, so I thought I'd turn to the experts.

I'm twenty, my husband and I had sex numerous times in the last few weeks. I'm currently on Ortho Tri-Cyclen (combo birth control pill) and as far as I remember, I took it darn near perfectly throughout my last cycle - no late pills, no missed pills, nothing of that sort. I was expecting AF on September 20th (a Wednesday) and it came exactly on time and I had a completely normal length, normal flow.

Just as AF was ending on Sunday night, I got the worst headache I have ever experienced in my life... it must have been a migraine. I normally NEVER get headaches - literally two or three times a year. Since that huge migraine, I've been having regular headaches, not near as bad. Then, I went to bed on Monday night only to wake up at 4am and vomit... went back to sleep, but didn't go to work the next day because I was feeling lightheadedish and just woozy.

Since then, I've had the constant headaches, occasional upset tummy (although no more vomiting) and have generally been feeling crummy.

How likely is it for me to have a full period while being PG? I'm really regular since I'm on BC. Would it be too early to have symptoms like that anyway? HELP! I can't take my mind off it.

Any input would be much appreciated ladies...

And also forgot one more thing - I have been super emotional over the last few days too... but I'm not sure if I could just be stressed because of this!

why not take a home pregnancy test to find out??

lazyemma · 30/09/2006 16:18

I'm no expert but it sounds to me like the headaches and nausea mean you're poorly, not pregnant. I haven't heard of migraine-style headaches being an early sign of pregnancy. Nausea is, but then there are countless other causes too, and it might be linked to your migraines. The fact that you've been careful with your birth control pills and that you've just had a normal monthly bleed make it seem even less likely that you're pregnant.

I think you should go to the doctor about the migraines if they don't clear up in the next couple of days. As for whether you're pregnant, if you're still in any doubt you should take a test so you know for sure.

KrisM · 30/09/2006 16:19

Well, first because I don't know if I'm just being paranoid and it's unjustified, and second because I don't want to have to go out and buy one... eek.

oooh! go on & buy one! I love the agony of waiting to see the result. such fun! too bad those days are gone for me...

MrsApronstrings · 30/09/2006 16:37

If you are on the pill, took it proberly and had a period i think it is unlikely that you are pregnant....but now to throw a spanner in the works I will tell you that I had migraines - with full blown vomitting when I was pregnant with dd1. It was the first time I really had migraines.

Am I guessing you would like to be pregnant?

KrisM · 30/09/2006 17:26

Well, I want to be pregnant... but not right now - which is why I'm on the pill. I'm still in school... so... that would not be the best of situations.

If I did somehow get pregnant last month, I could already be having symptoms like that now, this early?

I wonder if the pill you are on doesn't agree with you? I can't take the pill, I get migraines with my cycle. But I don't get them when pregnant. Hormones definately can do this to you!! Also, if you are having regular sex I think our body starts 'screaming' to be pregnant! And causes all sorts of trouble until it gets its way!

KrisM · 30/09/2006 17:31

And it IS possible to get a period and be pregnant? I would think that's... not physically possible. Strange!

Rosylili - I've been on this type of pill for about... a year and a half, it only caused me problems when I first started it. I thought maybe the vomiting was from it though, because I accidently forgot to start my new pack until the next day so I had to take two pills within eight hours of each other, which can make you sick...

This whole thing can drive you mad you know? If you missed a day you could be caught but taking two maybe made you sick. My sister used condom and morning after pill but STILL she was pregnant....and other people try their hardest for years before getting pregnant... I think you can get tests cheaply in some places....might be handy to have a few in for such occasions.

julezboo · 30/09/2006 19:12

In answer to question Honey, bleeding is possible when pregnant, alot of people still bleed regularly throughout their whole pregnant, I did, bang on time for my AF up until week 16 of this pregnancy now 20 weeks.

The headaches also, I have had alot of migraine type headaches too. But like the other ladies say, only way to find out for sure is to take a test!

good luck x x

KrisM · 30/09/2006 19:35

Eeek... that makes me paranoid. This is very scary...

yes, bleeding is possible in pregnancy - spotting is fairly common, for example. but a five-day bleed that in duration and flow is exactly like a normal period would be extremely unlikely, I'd have thought.

mum26plus · 01/10/2006 03:29

having a normal period can and does happen when pregnant. I had normal length periods with ds3 up till 3 months...needless to say scared the hell out of me each moth. He was also conceived whilst I was faithfully taking the pill

lazyemma · 01/10/2006 10:34

cor! I've never heard that before. I still think the best thing Kris could do now is to test, as everyone seems to have such different experiences.

Rosylily · 01/10/2006 10:45

Mum26, if you were taking the pill and having periods what made you suspect you were pregnant? When I was really broody for years I was so aware of my body every month, hoping to be pregnant by happy accident. I am pregnant now with no. 4 and it was a total surprise. I thought I had a tummy bug until my period didn't show up!

KrisM · 01/10/2006 14:43

That's what I'm going to do... I went and got the test this morning, so I'll let you know what happens. Eek!

OP posts:
KrisM · 02/10/2006 06:51

Well, took it today, and was pretty much definitate negative. If I were pregs I would think it would be pretty obvious in the test, so I think I'm safe for now...

I bet you are a bit disapointed are you? But there will be a better time for babies. When it is right for you it will be a great adventure for you to be pregnant but once you have babies they do tend to take over a bit! I hope you are feeling better soon.
