Hello all,

I am just coming up to the 28 week mark and can not stop eating / thinking about food.
I have a really healthy diet usually but the last few weeks or so its all gone out the window. I cook all my meals from scratch and never buy ready meals but concerned about how my portion sizes are increasing. I'm not necessarily bothered about weight whilst pregnant as know I need to increase fat supplies for breast feeding etc but I have been eating at least 1 x 'treat' everyday for the last 2 weeks. Also struggling with lack of exercise but I just haven't got the energy. I've put on about 14lbs so far. Is that normal?

Thanks.

I don't think there's a 'normal' amount. I don't remember how much, but I had put on way more than 14lb by 28 weeks, but didn't really gain anything from 32 onwards.
I'm no expert but I wouldn't worry about it. I changed my diet a lot because of sickness, but tried to eat healthy meals. At a similar stage my heartburn was so bad I didn't exercise much, even stopped my beloved Aquanatal because I just felt sick all the way through it...
I did indulge more too (I blame DH) but I don't regret it!
Don't worry, enjoy it! XxxX

I wish I had only put on 14lbs Blush If you're midwife isn't concerned then there is no reason to be Smile

Im almost 29 weeks and have put on 16lb. M/w said I am bang on in the middle of recommended gain at my stage (I think 4 - 12kg is recommended and 16lb is about 8kg - could be wrong)
I gained over 5 stone with DD1 which I am looking to avoid this time. I did loose it within 6 months of giving birth though.

As long as you weren't heavily overweight at the time of your booking appointment then your weight gain doesn't really matter much. As long as you and the baby are healthy that's all that matters. I put on 4 stone with both my pregnancies and beat myself up so much that I absolutely despised being pregnant and it really ruined the experience for me and my family.

In a nutshell. Don't worry about it. Treat yourself when you feel the need and don't diet. Good luck and enjoy your pregnancy. I wish I had! Hmm

I really wouldn't worry. If you're hungry, then eat. Listen to your body.

I've been having a treat every day since the beginning - at tea time when I get hungry and won't be eating again til 8ish. I'm normally a very healthy eater, but have enjoyed the freedom to eat some foods I would normally avoid. I'll go back to them being rare treats when my body is all my own again.

I've put on 18lbs at 27 weeks and the babies have been hitting average weights. That's what matters.

Soon the baby will take up more space and you won't be able to eat much so your better putting it on now. I put on two stone with first and lost one stone giving birth and the second after six weeks of breastfeeding. I went from a size 18 pre pregnancy down to a 12/14 a year or two later. Started at 16 this pregnancy so might even get to a 10 for the first time in my life.

Thanks everyone. I was 9 stone to start and 5'6 not over weight - I had a healthy BMI. Guess everyone is different. Most of the weight has gone on my boobs - 32d to 32g :( i'm dreading the milk coming and already planning a boob reduction!

Havent weighed myself for a few weeks but at the last count i'd put on 1.5 stone. I put 2.5 stone on with DD in all. I lost a stone very quickly after I had her, followed by the second stone about 6 weeks later, then I never really got rid of the extra half stone! Was too lazy to get it back off to pre pregnancy weight!
