Bad news at scan- no stomach bubble

Hey

Had our anomaly scan yesterday. It all went well (and our girl is in fact a boy) until the stomach. She'd asked me earlier to go wait for a bit because the stomach was empty. I came back and it still was. She called the consultant. It's a sign of a birth defect called oesophagal atresia. It doesn't connect to the stomach. She gave us a lot of info and options, had to ask I was listening because I was crying. We have to come back Thurs for another scan. If stomach hasn't filled then I need an amnio. EA often occurs with trisomies and other chromosomal defects. If not that then it can occur with VACTERL syndrome which can be debilitating. Even if in isolation it's surgery after birth then lifelong issues.

Feel overwhelmed and broken. What is an amnio like? I'll be 23 weeks, will they rush results in case we have decisions to make?

sweetshop I do hope all goes well for you and the twins...

I'm absolutely outraged on your behalf that your cons refused you a scan. It is medically indicated. I also have been to the FMC in the past, and found them very good. However, the care you are receiving under the NHS is suboptimal. They should be held to account. If you feel you need further scans, do take it to another consultant or PALS. Absolutely outrageous.

Hi
We went for 21 week US and was told similar thing. No Stomach bubble seen, rest all okay. While we wait with fingers crossed for next step, would you mind telling how is your kid doing now, since it has been 5 years.

Hi, I know this is an old thread so pushing my luck at any responses. But I'm currently going through something v similar - baby boy has a double cleft lip and at first no stomach was seen, 3 hours later it was there but very very small. We are seeing a specialist toMorrow. Last 3 days have been hell.

How did you all get on? Praying for good results.

Hi, I'm going through the same situation as yours. No stomach bubble seen. AFI value is 24 cm. Going for expert opinion. How are things at your end?
