I am expecting our first at the end of December, and am getting a bit confused about what clothes we will need. We have two dogs and I will be walking them, with baby in a sling/carrier so I am particularly worried about having enough warm clothes?

I currently have:

Newborn size -

6 sleepsuits
8 vests
2 trousers (with feet)
1 long sleeve t-shirt

0-3 month size -

1 jacket
2 sleepsuits
1 vest
1 long sleeve t-shirt
2 trousers
2 jumpers
3 dungaree sets

Confusing business, this!

Thanks :-)

You'll get given lots, but at the moment I would add a hat (they'll expect you to have one in the hospital immediately post birth - the little cotton ones) You also need a warm outer layer for the carrier/ sling, either a snowsuit or I recommend a star wrap from tuppence and crumble. As a rule of thumb babies need one more layer than you do, so you probably need some cardigan type layers to go over the babygros. They can go through a lot of changes of clothes v quickly with liquid poo and inexperienced nappy application so you might need more changes than you currently have. IME most gifts are 'outfits' but you need to have lots of basics to start with. Newborn sizes go up to about 9lb so unless you are measuring big you are likely to start with that size.

You need more sleep suits and less trousers and tops but supermarkets are 24hours. No need to buy extras for just in case.

Babies are awkward little things who poo and sick over everything so you'll give up and baby will live in sleep suits etc, and in Dec you'll want to change them immediately and put them back in something warm.

Trousers and tops are really for puting babies in 5 mins before meeting a rellie for a limited period or for photos.

It isn't unheard of for mine to get through 7 sleep suits in 24 hours.
