Really upset, negative tests after a clear positive.

I took a test yesterday morning and there was a very clear second line and pink. It was faint but both DH and I could see it. Today however my big order of eBay tests came in and they all seem much fainter than yesterday or negative altogether

How common are false positives?

Hi, I believe false positives are very rare - is it possible that the new type of tests you are using are less sensitive?

When were you due 'on'? It might be that it is early days so you might not get a positive result on a less sensitive test yet.

Good luck! :-)

Greyhound · 14/10/2014 15:41

Take another of the tests you first used first thing tomorrow morning.

MrsKrios · 14/10/2014 15:44

They've run out Greyhound and they're a brand I don't see in other shops "best buy" it's called.

I don't know what to think. I hate the not knowing, feels awful Sad

Is your period late?

MrsKrios · 14/10/2014 15:47

A few days late yes. I know it was probably silly to post this as I just have to wait it out but I was so sure yesterday Sad .

Ive recently used ones from b'n'm bargains "clear and simple" they are called, i used the dip strips, you get 3 in a pack, on Sat night and Sun morning the pos line was faint but definately there, i have in the last hour used the other type available, the same brand but one you pee on and both lines are very strong. If you have a b'n'm near you go and get some, 99p for dip stick and £1.49 for the pee stick, your hormone levels increase dramatically within 48 hours, i found this out when i had a miscarriage but obviously my hormone levels dropped dramatically.Good luck

ToAvoidConversation · 14/10/2014 15:49

Are the tests different strengths? Did you use first morning urine when testing?

It doesn't look like you are posting from the UK so can't really advise on brands of preg tests!

MrsKrios · 14/10/2014 15:59

I am posting from the UK, I got these tests from the corner shop and I am starting to think I might have had a dodgy false positive test Shock .

The test I took yesterday is less sensitive than the ones I've taken today. I took it earlier though, with fmu.

I'll just be so disappointed Sad .

Are you able to pick up a digital one? There's definitely less room for error with those.

Massive fingers crossed you get your positive. :)

MrsKrios · 14/10/2014 16:07

I think I'll wait a few days before getting a digital. They're not very good on the early days i've found.

I'm late and no signof AF though so just have to wait and see. I'll test again tomorrow with fmu.

Thanks everyone Thanks

Either try a digital in a couple of days if AF hasn't arrived or try First Response tests - fx for you

jbee1979 · 14/10/2014 17:09

I got my first BFP on a clearblue one - not a digital, and superdrug own brand to back it up. The Internet cheapies didn't show until a few days later - even though they're supposed to be 10miu - I didn't find them more sensitive at all. don't loose hope Smile

StarsInTheNightSky · 14/10/2014 17:16

I tested with those "best buy" one from eBay and got three negatives, thinking nothing of it DH and I went away on holiday and I did pretty much everything you shouldn't when pregnant.

I was really sick on the plane on the way home (I never get air sick) so tested using a different brand when we got home and it was positive, our supposed early scan showed that I was 10 weeks by then and blood tests showed that hcg was through the roof.

I really wouldn't trust them if I were you, I've always found the superdrug ones to be the best at showing positives, could you retest with a different brand?

StarsInTheNightSky · 14/10/2014 17:24

Sorry, just realised that sounded horribly blunt, it wasn't meant that way but our false negative was trying to wrestle the tablet off me! Grin Don't lose hope, hang in there x

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 14/10/2014 23:00

Hi MrsKrios sorry to hear you are having all this worry.

It's almost impossible to get a false positive as the pg hormones have to be present. But totally possible to get a false negative if the test isn't sensitive enough to detect the amount of hormone present in your urine. Had you had a lot to drink before you tested today? That can really have an impact.

Do you have another test to hand? Testing first thing tomorrow with fmu will hopefully set your mind at rest. Hang on in there. Flowers

MrsKrios · 15/10/2014 07:06

Faint BFP this morning. I would have thought it would have started getting darker but I'm just happy to see a line there on a different test Smile

OP posts:
StarsInTheNightSky · 15/10/2014 07:38

That's great news! Grin The lines can a while to get stronger, but as others have said, it's virtually impossible to get a false positive, try other be are, I alerts found that lines came out stronger on some than others.

CherryLips1980 · 15/10/2014 09:33

Yay for BFP!

I used these: www.amazon.co.uk/Highly-Sensitive-Pregnancy-Strips-earlier/dp/B004EYMMEU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1413361847&sr=8-2&keywords=pregnancy+test+strips - despite what it says about being highly sensitive, I didn't get a 'proper, see it without squinting BFP' until about 7 weeks.

Am now 13 weeks and scan showed a healthy lodger in there :)

Ruth10 · 15/10/2014 10:12

Use a first response test. I used cheaper ones first and got negatives/squinters but there was no denying the positive on the first response I tried a day later.

Good luck, I hope you get your positive!

MrsKrios · 15/10/2014 10:14

En route to get a first response. I trust those a lot more and I'm still worried I'm imagining things. I will let you all know Thanks

OP posts:
MrsKrios · 15/10/2014 10:39

Strong BFP on first response. I'm in shock, had convinced myself I'd been imagining things! Grin

Did a free this morning with fmu and there is a very very faint line! Practically white in colour but can see it! Moral of the story lol! Has anyone been this late and ten tested positive! Been trying to conceive since jan with two Mcs in between! Loosing hope if it happening! Any feed back! Good or bad would be great!!! Smile
