undescended testicle? could it be twisted?

Hello,

Ok very strange. My baby had both testes in his scrotum when he was born and at his first check. At the second check she could only feel one. we are now on the waiting list to see a pediatrician. He is five months old. For some time it kept coming down and then going back up, but now its disappeared and the doctor cant feel it to even try to massage it down.

Has anyone else experienced this and what was the outcome.

Another concern is that he screams all of a sudden, like one minute he is happy and then like a switch he just screams. its not even a cry. it can go on for an hour at a time. The doctors haven't been helpful but im just wondering whether his testicle is in his abdomen causing him pain. Could it have twisted or something? the screams are just not normal and a real worry. x

I don't know the answer to this OP, but just wanted to say I'm sorry- you must be so worried. I hope someone else will be along soon.

My DS had both testicles at birth and first check, then one went missing. He successfully had surgery to bring it into place at age 2yr. I don't know about the crying tho - could you push for an urgent appointment to discuss it?

My ds had an I descended testicle at birth - no pain though, and had the op to bring it down aged 13mo. No side effects, happy and all present and correct aged seven! Good luck OP, a difficult time for you.

A twisted testicle is very serious and if he has that it will already be too late to save the testicle, so I hope it isn't that, sorry to worry you. It could be a twisted appendix of the testicle, which my ds had at 3 but I have no idea if it is related to it being undecended or not. A twisted testicle is normally caused by an injury though. Not just happening by itself. A twisted appendix of testicle is not caused by an injury. Does he has any swelling or red or blue colouring on his testes?

Thank you so much everyone for the reassurance. I'm hoping it will just be a simple op. If I have no luck with the paediatrician then I'm just going to go private.
Just checked again and there's no swelling or blue colour.
You just worry when they are so small that it's painful for them as they can't tell you if they are in pain or not. The screaming is so stressful for both of us. It just sounds like he is in pain. No one wants their baby to be in pain. Just hoping to have this sorted soon. All I got from the health visitor is that he is a tricky baby! Thanks !!! So nice to have the support on here x

My DS is in the middle stage of the operations for his undescended testicle but his was never present. They did investigative surgery at 18 months and found that it was very small and that the blood vessels were not developed enough to allow it to descend. He's almost 2 and will have the operation to bring into into place in about 5 months. It is a very simple operation, even simpler when they know it is actually there in the first place. It's just a bit unpleasant watching them in discomfort.

As for the pain, I think you should listen to your instincts and go back to the dr. They can check with an ultrasound scan whether the testicle is high or low and they can put a plan in place from there.

Hi Rosie2011, how not nice for any of you! A testicular torsion can occur intermittently, and with his testicle having reascended it can have enough room to twist (which would be rare bordering on impossible for a 'true' undescended testicle). If it's still continuing please return to the doctor and push for faster follow-up

My DH had the op so ask away if you've any questions and I/he will help if we can.
