7 weeks pregnant

Hi there,

Just hoping someone can offer me some reassurance.

I am currently 7 weeks 3 days pregnant.

I came off the pill in May and didn’t get a period so I began taking vitex in June.

I was still taking vitex (1 x 1000mg per day tablet) up until last Saturday when I found out I was pregnant.

I have read horror stories online about stopping vitex cold and so I immediately went down to half a tablet (500mg) per day.

This week I have started taking a quarter of a tablet (so 250mg) and I planned to carry on taking this up to 12 weeks.

I decided to get my progesterone levels checked on Monday (at 7 weeks) and the results came back today:

My HCG level is 24,000

My progesterone levels are 49.

I know that vitex can raise progesterone so this might be why my levels are higher than average.

My question is: should I be worried about these levels? Should I stop taking vitex altogether or carry on taking a quarter of a tablet to be on the safe side?

I cannot see my doctor until the 17th and I am worried about what to do until then!

I should also add that I had an early scan at 6 weeks 2 days and they saw a heartbeat.

Your help is much appreciated!

Did you have the scan done by a midwife? If so, you could try asking them for advice. Or could you ask for an emergency appointment with your GP?
