Bleeding at 11 weeks after 9 week scan

I'm posting for positive stories if anyone has any! I had a private scan at 9 weeks, all was well and we saw a heart beat and it moving around.

This afternoon I've started bleeding quite heavily, on to my second pad of red blood- no clots yet. And have mild stomach pains. I've rang the midwife unit and I'm booked in in the morning for a scan.

It's a miscarraige isn't it? Sad I didn't realise how attached I was until something's gone wrong! Does anyone have any positive stories from a similar experience?

I didn't want to read this post and dash, so i want to say i have my fingers crossed for you. I haven't had a positive similar experience so i can offer no advice, but one thing i have learnt from being on these boards is that people can have bleeding and go on to have healthy pregnancies. I have my fingers crossed for you and wish you the best!!!!

Thank you Leanne. I'm trying to avoid google and hoping for the best

Sorry you are going through this stress. I had bleeding at 10 weeks. My ob/gyn says sometimes your body goes on to have small, false menstrual periods until all the full pregnancy hormones take over (if that makes sense). I went on to have a healthy baby. Good luck!

butterry · 07/10/2014 16:57

I had bleeding at 11 weeks too, so much bright red blood, more than a period, that I thought there could be no chance and had convinced/prepared myself for the worst. In my case it was either cervical erosion or subchorionic haematoma that was the cause and a scan the next day showed the baby's heart beat.

I know it's so difficult not to worry but there are positive stories out there. I'm 36 weeks now and remember how it felt in your shoes, fingers crossed and hoping you will see a heart beat tomorrow at the scan x

laurenamium · 07/10/2014 17:10

Thank you, if I had a heamatoma would it have shown at my last scan? I guess I can't know until tomorrow either way but it's good to know that there can be a positive outcome!

I'm not sure if it would have shown up but I had a 6 week, 8 week and 10 week scan and nothing was mentioned about the haematoma until the scan at 11 weeks after the bleeding. I didn't have anymore bleeding until 13 weeks when I had some light spotting after a flight and the haematoma absorbed by itself by 14/15 weeks. Try and rest as much as you can and think positive x

laurenamium · 07/10/2014 17:31

Thanks buttery, it's good to know that there is positive outcomes. It seems to be slowing now. But I'm laid down so there's less gravity!

Stay positive I had a scan at 7 weeks all fine then had bleeds at 10 &14wks which were unexplainable I'm now 20wks with an ever growing bump. If the bleeding has slowed down & you've no pain that's a positive sign.fingers crossed for your scan tomorrow

KittyVonCatsington · 07/10/2014 21:23

Hi lauren how very scary for you! My positive story is that I am 10+3 and on Sunday, I started bleeding bright red. Cue straight to A and E. They couldn't scan me on a weekend but did an internal and cervix was still high and closed, positive pregnancy test but blood in urine.

They next morning I arrived at the EPU on their advice and I was prepared for the worst as have mc'd before. Baby was alive and wriggling! They spotted the bleed-a subchorionic haemorrhage as mentioned above. These are quite common but they normally get absorbed back so we don't notice them. Mine 'appeared' due to straining too much with constipation Blush but they can 'appear' for other reasons.

I'm to expect more bleeding for a while (and I have been, whenever I go for a bowel movement) but is perfectly safe.

I too had little pain, maybe a few niggles and a bit of lower back pain, but nothing like the horrendous period-like cramps from before.

The ladies will take good care of you tomorrow. Good luck xxxx

laurenamium · 08/10/2014 09:52

Thank you everyone for your positive stories and reassurance. I had a scan this morning and they can't tell why I'm bleeding, but the baby is fine- wiggling round and with a strong heart beat! Smile

That's wonderful news OP Thanks

jaykay34 · 08/10/2014 10:27

So glad everything's ok ! I had periods up until 20 weeks and didn't know I was pregnant until 15 weeks. Nobody ever knew why I bled but it was scary at the time and I spent the whole pregnancy reflecting that something must be wrong - however I am now sat with my healthy 2 week old son. Smile

Polkadotscarf · 08/10/2014 11:42

I had breakthrough bleeds for first three months which was pretty scary but had scans each time that showed no real cause. Just one of those things for some of us I guess!

butterry · 08/10/2014 18:30

Glad to hear baby is happily wriggling around in there, must be such a relief! I hope they find out the cause and keep a close eye on you :)

Fifibluebell · 08/10/2014 18:41

I had a scan at about 6 weeks everything normal then had a bleed at 9 weeks everything fine when scanned a bleed at 34 weeks everything fine and they had no explanation went full term and he's now 3. Good luck Thanks

Fifibluebell · 08/10/2014 18:43

Should have read to the bottom! What a relief for you OP

TarkaTheOtter · 08/10/2014 19:30

lauren I had almost the exact same situation.
Private scan at 10weeks - everything fine.
MASSIVE bleed at 11weeks. So much blood I was kept in overnight. An emergency scan showed baby was fine. I bled for about a week or so but much lighter after first couple of days.
I had my "12 week scan" a week and a half later and they could see I had a subchronic haematoma. Apparently they can't see new blood on the ultrasound but they can see old blood hence why they couldn't see it at the emergency scan. They told me the remaining blood might come out or be reabsorbed. It must have been the latter as no sign of it at 20week scan.

laurenamium · 08/10/2014 19:43

Ah thank you tarka! That might be why she said I might be able to see why I've bled at the scan next week but not this one! I was a bit confused but if scan doesn't show new blood then that's why Confused

Hi Lauren I'm glad it all turned out ok for you. I'm 14+4 and last week I had a huge bleed - I was terrified and thought it was the end. I mean it was like a heavy period with massive clots. It lasted a week on and off. I went to the ER (I was in the US at the time) twice and the gynae here so I've had three scans and all is fine. No explanation. It's still bleeding a week later although not as heavy.
The sight of blood is terrifying and it's an emotionally exhausting experience. But I'm trying to think that maybe some of us just bleed. I had heavy periods anyway due to fibroids.
All I can say is rest, make sure you and your OH look after each other and try to distract yourself with a funny film or something.

Stewedcoot · 08/10/2014 22:11

So glad it is good news Laurenamium take it steady!
