we have our 20-week scan in the morning but I can't help feeling really nervous, mainly for the reason being all of the medication my husband is on, and was on at time of conception - can the fathers medication affect the sperm in any sense re development?

He takes daily Ramipril (blood pressure), Simvastatin (cholesterol), Aspirin, Citalopram (Anxiety), and Propanalol?

Am I worrying about nothing? Sad Confused

Aspirin has no effect.

Do you have the pack information leaflets for the others? If any are hostile to healthy sperm development, there should be a clear warning.

I know citalopram is OK. There are very few medications that affect a developing embryo if the dad was taking them at conception.

A pharmacist should be able to look each up and tell you.

Hello, I work in teratology. This is the standard statement that we use in our leaflets for most medicines used by the father: 'No studies have specifically investigated whether XXX used by the father can harm the baby through affects on the sperm, however most experts agree that this is very unlikely. More research on the effects of drug and medicine use in men around the time of conception is needed'

Hope this helps and that you are able to relax and enjoy seeing your little one later.
