to have sharp stabbing pains in your breasts during week 40 of the pregnancy? I didn't have these before and now I do. They are worse during the night. Can someone please explain what this is?

never got to 40 weeks sorry didnt want to read and run though! I would think it was your milk getting ready x x

I would think it is fairly normal, try a warm bath or lay a warm flannel over your boobs. It will help to ease it.

bebsy its your boobs getting ready for the milk theyre producing. Nataliejane is right place a warm flannel over them or have a warm bath. Take paracetamol if the pain is too bad. Safe in pregnancy.

Cheers folks! I thought it was the milk thing but also thought they changed earlier in the pregnancy for the milk to come through and I never had the stabbing pains then, they were just sore. I'll try the flannel during the night to see if it helps as this is when it's worse. Do these pains tend to continue after the babys born?

I should explain that I ask as I want to breastfeed but I think these pains would make it difficult.

Yes the pains do pass. Im 36 weeks pregnant and get shooting pains too. Get them from my armpits too. Just make sure you wear a good fitting and suportive bra. Not being funny but are you getting a little milk when you squeeze your nipples? If your realy worried ask your mw.

hey i am a first time mum my baby is due feb14th making me 20 weeks pregnant, im so looking forward to meeting my bundle of joy, i am constenly worried wish i could see into my belly just to make sure everything is ok anyone else feel this way?

bebsy · 29/09/2006 15:46

Gingeme - I don't get any milk which I thought was quite strange but have read somewhere or another that it doesn't always come out beforehand. I think the pains are worse on a night because of the lack of support but there are some bra recommendations in another thread which I'm going to give a go. I'll speak to my midwife if they get worse but babys due tomorrow so hopefully it won't go on for too long if the babys on time!!
Thanks for your help.
