40 weeks - cervix central but closed

Sitting here like a grumpy duck on my due date. Typically, no sign of baby, who's my first.

I had an appt. for a stretch and sweep earlier; apparently cervix central but quite closed - midfwife could only just get her finger in. I started with period-type cramping pains straight afterwards, but I'd be interested to know from women who've been in my position whether a sweep like this can still be effective?

I'm not over optimistic - I'm booked in for an induction on the 15th - but others' personal experiences would be very welcome!
